end of an era: r.i.p. tom petty

Sadly overnight, the original news was confirmed.  Tom Petty is dead. Phil Heron confirmed it this morning in The Heron’s Nest.

Well, I won’t back down
No, I won’t back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won’t back down

No, I’ll stand my ground
Won’t be turned around
And I’ll keep this world from draggin’ me down

Gonna stand my ground

And I won’t back down
(I won’t back down)
Hey, baby, there ain’t no easy way out
(I won’t back down)
Hey, I will stand my ground

BEFORE: CRAZY UPDATE — Straight from La La Land.  Tom Petty isn’t dead? Or isn’t dead yet? YIKES…

(Inconvenience??????)

EARLIER (ORIGINAL POST):

Almost simultaneously one friend I went to college with another friend I know as an adult messaged me within minutes of the news that Tom Petty has just died. (See Rolling Stone.)

Driving home just now “I won’t back down” played on the radio.

If you are of a certain age, there are Tom Petty song memories and lots of people who loved him.

The Los Angeles Times had recently written an in depth article about him and his amazing body of work and a recent Hollywood Bowl concert.

RIP Tom Petty. Thanks for the music.
