It was a BIG BLUE tidal wave. At the end of the day, it was amazing to watch even if I didn’t vote a straight ticket in either direction.

However, I rarely if ever have voted a straight ticket. My thing is balance.

I have said it before that I think balance in politics is so important because I honestly fear one party rule is too close to being a light imitation of monarchy.

And let us recall out American history and that is our founding fathers fought and bled to found this country to escape tyranny and oppression….a direct result all those centuries ago of a monarchy. You could say they had George III of England and we today have Donald Trump, couldn’t you?

Sorry Republicans, don’t get your panties all in a bunch, but this election? It has a goddamn LOT to do with HOW people feel about the current state of affairs in Washington doesn’t it? Yesterday’s election was a message and a rejection in fact of all the nastiness going on in Washington, D.C. People sent a message via their vote.

Yesterday I was torn in a few races. People I knew were running. That makes it hard. But in my heart of hearts, I knew it was time and this was going to happen, so I accept the results. We have to breathe and give these people a chance. I know some won’t agree with that, but it’s the right thing to do.

Republicans and Democrats, Chester County has now turned blue. Just as a wise man and student of history told me it would. Except I think it may have happened a little faster than even he predicted.

This was a history making election for our county. And Delaware County too and many other places.

It is a message.

But no party is infallible and one party rule makes me nervous from EITHER party. Here’s hoping Chester County can come together now.

Kindly look at that screenshot above from the election results website? It says 39% voter turnout in Chester County! I know it’s an “off year” election but come on people, as a society we can’t fall victim to political apathy. Except for rare occasions and primaries now that I am an independent, I vote every chance I get.

Voting is a right that we should respect and cherish. And that right isn’t party specific. And as a woman? It was a hard won battle for women to gain the right to vote.

I voted yesterday even when it literally was incredibly painful to move. I tore the meniscus in my other knee- did it to the other one before. But I have my one grandmother’s knees and both of my grandmothers were born before women had the right to vote. So that means something to me even if I am not whom some would term a woman’s libber.

I will now say congratulations to District Attorney Elect Deb Ryan in particular. She did make actual freaking history with this election and as a woman I think that is a big deal. She is the first female district attorney in our county’s history, and that is some glass ceiling to shatter.

But readers? Now is the time for all of us to come together. The election is over. Let’s take down the signs and get back to regular, non-political living. Please.
