happy first day of spring

Well it feels like winter but it’s still the first day of spring.

A Light exists in Spring
Not present on the Year
At any other period —
When March is scarcely here

A Color stands abroad
On Solitary Fields
That Science cannot overtake
But Human Nature feels.

It waits upon the Lawn,
It shows the furthest Tree
Upon the furthest Slope you know
It almost speaks to you.

Then as Horizons step
Or Noons report away
Without the Formula of sound
It passes and we stay —

A quality of loss
Affecting our Content
As Trade had suddenly encroached
Upon a Sacrament.

~ Emily Dickinson

nope, it’s not ok

Last night I published a post about essentially being harassed by someone from a Villanova University IP address leaving comments on this website. This was after I had written about what is going on in Mount Pleasant again in Tredyffrin’s panhandle.

Overnight I received yet another comment which, once again has an IP address the tracks to Villanova University.

Of course, I am always surprised that it seems like the Tredyffrin Manager Bill Martin does not deal with these off campus party houses because he previously also worked in Radnor Township, so he is aware that the problems are real, and not just made up.

I will also note that there are plenty of off-campus student rentals where the students get along very well with their neighbors. But there are still houses that are the exception to that rule. One of those houses is 985 Mount Pleasant Ave. in the Tredyffrin side of Wayne.

This property is now in an LLC but it still looks like it’s the same owner. I think probably this house goes from word of mouth to word of mouth from school year to school year. it probably originally started as somebody getting a house off campus for their kid while they were in school, which is common practice around the country. But then sometimes people sell these properties when the kids are out of school. Other property owners often decide to keep these properties as investments.

So I’m getting these messages. The first message came with a real email address with the first comment. Next with the second comment it was a fake email but related IP address, now there is this comment with a fake e-mail address but another related IP address.

This all went to Villanova, and the Dean of Students along with what was sent yesterday. And again this is over an off campus animal house party house that I wrote about over the weekend is located in Tredyffrin. Again, the comments are coming as per the IP searches from Radnor Township, so that’s presumably main campus. If the comments persist, I can go to Radnor Police Department and file a report. They are aware of this. BUT…

Yes there is a but. And it is in my decision making process.

Villanova is a rather expensive school these days, and this person sending the comments has been sent to this very expensive school by two hard-working parents. If I file a formal police report, this is something that could follow this commenter around as he is graduating and looking for a job. It’s all fun and games to be an internet gangsta, but the reality is something not grasped about behavior like this.

This commenter is close to if not 21 already. But over 18. They don’t have very much life experience so they don’t realize that this is not his parents’ glory days of college. No one wants a kid that parents are spending hard earned money on to not be able to develop to their full potential after graduation, right? But this behavior needs to stop. And even Villanova knows that.

So I am giving Villanova University the opportunity to deal with this. In turn for the time being it gives this internet punk a gift he may not deserve, but perhaps his parents do.

However, it is time for Tredyffrin Township to deal proactively with the problems of these off-campus student houses. The neighbors do actually have rights even if Tredyffrin seeming likes to pretend Mount Pleasant doesn’t exist.

I see you residents of Mount Pleasant. You all are dealing with so much including with the really horrible development that keeps happening. This is an area that deserves respect and their history as well.

As for the rest of it? Gosh here’s hoping that some day kids living in off campus housing and their friends coming over to party realize that it takes so little to be a decent neighbor while they are living in these neighborhoods.

Villanova did reach out to me today and promised they are looking into this. So I will see what happens. I am not trying to be unfair. But these kids have to behave better off campus while they are guests in our communities and leaving comments like this wherever is simply unacceptable behavior.

Thanks for stopping by.

funding? no funding? who keeps tabs on funding if granted?

So Farmer in the Dell over at Westtown where it used to be Pete’s is applying for federal and possibly other grants?

https://houlahan.house.gov/priorities/community-project-funding.htm

Hey grants are there to be applied for. But is this barn project that will be completed while the fields lay fallow and there is limited farming, because the place is not technically certified organic yet?

And if Farmer Jawn no longer has a business at 6730 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19119 how can the Farmer Jawn Friends and Foundation Fund have this as an address? And because Westtown technically owns the land and the structures she is leasing, should they be the ones in fact applying for these grants?

I followed the link to the list of applications on Congresswoman Houlahan’s site, and this is what I saw

So, technically Farmer Jawn is a tenant on this land. Again, Westtown School owns it. I was unable to find any information about this on Westtown’s site. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place?

I am not saying that this would be a bad idea or project AT ALL. What I AM saying is that there are a lot of questions and loose ends surrounding the Farmer Jawn of it all aren’t there? This is a lot of money and it’s taxpayer money, we are taxpayers, so when you’re dealing with someone who doesn’t seem particularly transparent about things, it makes it hard to get behind things doesn’t it? (And yes, that is an opinion and yes that is allowed.)

The Daily Local reported on this grant project, but I didn’t see that Farmer Jawn received a grant.

I will be curious as to how this all pans out.

Chester County

• $977,573 for Ann’s Heart, 35 Hall St., Phoenixville, Purchase of Campus.

The funding would be used for the acquisition of the campus that they currently lease. The project will ensure the location continues as a hub for supportive services such as housing case management, an emergency shelter, and a commercial kitchen for food preparation and distribution.

• $117,000 for Phoenixville Police Department, Law Enforcement 21st Century Policing Initiative.

nothing like a couple of obnoxious notes from a nice catholic on st. patrick’s day

So yesterday I wrote once again about the animal house- like- party house located at 985 Mount Pleasant Ave, Wayne PA. It is located in Tredyffrin Township in what they call the “panhandle” of Tredyffrin.

Mt. Pleasant is actually a historic area and it was an early black settlement in Chester County and the Main Line. Every year for years there have quite the collection of students wreaking havoc there off campus most weekends. The residents refer to one house at 985 Mount Pleasant Avenue as the blue tarp house because the students hang blue contactor tarps to shield their keggers from view.

These kids off campus in this neighborhood are horrible from year to year. Everyone expects college kids to be college kids, right? So why is it from year to year the off campus students can’t have fun without trashing this neighborhood?

This weekend’s parties resulted in a lot of neighbor chatter. Kids vomiting in the street, urinating in public (including girls), trash, open containers, driving like crazy, etc.

Again, if they wanted to be good neighbors and have fun, they could. But they don’t. They are terrible. So I wrote about it yesterday.

Here are screenshots from the actual neighbor chat regarding these parties this weekend:

Well one college student didn’t like my commenting/writing about this:

“get a life fat granny ur kids don’t love you”

ian.p.keeley@gmail.com

IP 153.104.35.63

And dude wasn’t hard to find. He used his real e-mail address and his IP address gave a nice Villanova University location. In Radnor Township no less.

Oh yeah, the IP address of it all:

I will admit that I shot back a snotful reply and called him a twat waffle. I suggested not so bright to use his real email etc. Then I blocked that email address and IP.

Welp, the indignant Villanova student had to leave another comment:

u want my phone number too? social secuirty? ur so cool you can track my IP the FBI should recruit you. Maybe it would give you something better to do than stalk college children during a holiday you predatory creep

blah.blah@gmail.com

IP 153.104.34.226

And again…the IP address told the Villanova story again:

So I told him I was going to go to Villanova directly. He was harassing me and for what? Because I said college kids going to parties at 985 Mount Pleasant shouldn’t be drunken jerks? Shouldn’t piss in/on the street? Shouldn’t vomit in the street? Shouldn’t leave trash everywhere? Shouldn’t drive recklessly in a neighborhood where there are little kids with their buddies hanging out of the trunks of cars? I told him also he was not quite a child, although definitely acting like one. Then I blocked that IP and fake e-mail.

And I did go to Villanova with the comments and IP addresses etc. Not that anything will probably happen. They still can’t control the off campus student population. I have never thought they tried particularly hard. They do have this nifty off campus booklet now:

These are the two of my favorite pages:

Sadly, I do not know where they found the students in the brochure because they obviously don’t hang out at Villa Blue Tarp.

So I hope that college jackass likes his five minutes of fame. I sent it to the Dean of Students at Villanova. I told him what I had written about previously. Maybe it will make an impression and give the residents of Mount Pleasant and other off campus student housing plagued neighborhoods some peace. We were all that age once. Away from home, testing limits and boundaries. But oddly I do not recall trashing people’s neighborhoods and being miserable drunken neighbors.

College students can have fun without acting like every weekend is a reincarnation of animal house. These students don’t get that the neighbors wouldn’t care if they weren’t so damn loud, drunk, and obnoxious. But real people live around these off campus student houses.

I lived next door to one once upon a time, until a slum lord’s cheap roofer decided to do roof repairs on a windy enough day that the roof caught on fire and the house burned to the ground. And you know who contacted Villanova to make sure that the school found them places to stay and contacted parents etc? Oh that would have been me. And that house was horrible with the parties and super rude inhabitants. We would wake up and there would be like 20 cars on their lawn, and then cars on our lawn, neighbors’ lawns etc. But still when those kids needed help, the 24/7/365 neighbors were there. That is what is being part of a community is about. Hopefully they get that some day.

So yes, Happy Saint Patrick’s Day and yo Erin Go Bratty.

Love, Fat Granny. kiss kiss.

it’s called sock puppetry.

The old webmaster of the old Save Ardmore Coalition website (website no longer exists and neither does The Save Ardmore Coalition except in memory) first explained to me about Internet sock puppets. Literally people post under fake handles etc to boost reviews, get attention, and more.

Even Norton Labs wrote about it a few years ago:

Identifying Sock puppet Accounts on Social Media Platforms
Evolution of Disinformation Campaigns from 2016 – Present

By Daniel Katz Senior Principal Researcher

While online disinformation campaigns are not new phenomena, the topic generated renewed interest in the wake of the 2016 US presidential election. This has led to large-scale journalistic and scholarly investigations of disinformation operations on social media platforms in the years since. This article attempts to summarize our current understanding of disinformation operations and how they have evolved from 2016 to the present. We also outline key ways that such operations can be detected with examples from recent campaigns, the ongoing challenges in this area, and common misconceptions.

…..To begin our discussion, we need to start with a common set of definitions. We define a sockpuppet as a fictitious online identity created for the purposes of deception. Sockpuppets are usually created in large numbers by a single controlling person or group. They are typically used for block evasion, creating false majority opinions, vote stacking, and other similar pursuits. Sockpuppets are as old as the internet—and even older than that. In academic literature, they are sometimes called Sybils, and they are a staple of research in distributed systems security.

In contrast, bots are fully automated accounts which disseminate and sometimes produce content. A simple example of a bot that is not a sockpuppet is the Big Ben Clock account on Twitter, which tweets “bong” every hour of every day. Bots are relatively rare on social media and are generally much easier to detect.

The use of sockpuppets is rapidly rising. In 2013, Wikipedia published research detailing their identification of “2700 unique suspected cases” of sockpuppets. These numbers seem almost quaint now. In 2017, a study was published analyzing 3656 verified sockpuppets in the comment section of various discussion communities. The University of Oxford estimated 70 countries were affected by state-sponsored social media manipulation in 2019, a 150% increase from just 2 years prior. Academic estimates suggest that 5-15% of all Twitter accounts are sockpuppets, while Facebook estimates that 5% of all accounts on its platform are fake.

Identifying Sockpuppets

So how are sockpuppet accounts detected, both by the social media giants and in academia? There are, broadly speaking, five techniques that we look for – or we would say features that are used.

IP-based correlation (accounts that are closely linked geographically)

Temporal-based correlation (closely linked in time)

Signs of automation in username/handle and other account metadata

Social subgraphs

Content similarity

Ok so that author above has sockpuppet as one word. I always have it as two. Don’t know which is correct….

So back in October 2023, a certain “Main Line Public Figure” called Easttown Police on me. For referring to this oddness on Facebook where it looked like either his account had been cloned under a fake name or for some reason he had created another account. So was it his sock puppet account? See screenshots below. Notice little globes. That means public.

I didn’t do anything wrong. This guy lays his life out on social media everywhere. Self branded public figure. Even has pictures of his kids when they were little on Twitter. Puts his cars up and his beach house and even his wife’s career. Pick a platform – it’s not hidden – TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Google, etc.

So recently there was a bit of a social media meltdown. Having to do with a Google review. Google reviews are public. Here is the review and subsequent posts:

Well the group is still up (of course.) I am glad to not be in the group any longer. I found it somewhat worthless anyway. I initially joined it because friends did. I didn’t know whose group it was originally because he blocked me. So I was just a body to give him member counts, I suppose.

When I first heard about the absurd events to pay $45 to meet him at Autograph Brasserie in Wayne, I laughed out loud. Why would you want to meet him? And can’t you just take yourself somewhere for a meal without a seeing eye human? Well that got me tossed out of his group for saying that out loud. Funny thing is because he blocked me I never saw his posts anyway. Needless to say, I don’t miss the group.

However, his Facebook group is like a leaky boat. And his posts travel. But that is what happens with social media, especially when you are running around wanting to be an influencer and/or public figure. The entire objective is to literally get people to follow you and hang on your every word, but when you don’t like the end result you cry foul?

One of the favorite laments of this person is people targeting his wife and children. No one really does because they aren’t responsible for him BUT he puts it ALL out there IN PUBLIC VIEW.

It’s creepy. He might not LIKE my opinion, but it’s not illegal, libel, or slander. It’s an opinion.

And today, who really added this review on Google? I mean everyone knows to get bad reviews pushed down, you have to add others right?

Jennifer Gilbert is his wife, correct? Oy vey. Come on! Sock puppetry much?

Again, not speaking poorly of her or anyone related to him. Don’t know the woman, don’t want to know any of them. Don’t like Corvettes or McMansions. Or mid rate cruises.

What I do know is this guy puts it all out there publicly, constantly.

I don’t understand why he objects to then people discussing what he puts out there publicly? Is it he can’t control the narrative? Then maybe he needs to change his own narrative, huh? See screenshots above as an example. Threatening someone for leaving a negative Google review? And then a magical sock puppet named bebe bebe leaves a 5 star review? Are we rating nachos?

And in case his narrative takes a familiar turn: this post is not sharing any inside or private information. All found on Google, Facebook, TickTok, etc. The First Amendment allows people to have opinions. And no, not speaking disparagingly of his family. At the end of the day I am musing on sock puppets and what some people think being a public figure is all about and well, not illegal is it?

favolosa!

I have been a customer of Mangia Famiglia! for a few years now. Christine Familetti is a mad talented Italian cook. Usually I just buy her homemade Italian sausage (which tastes like 9th Street AKA the Italian Market), but this time on a whim I ordered her bake at home Stromboli .

Favolosa!

Full disclosure: I am not usually a Stromboli fan, my husband likes them. But Christine’s have made me a believer…at least of her Stromboli.

https://mangiafamiglia.com/

They were really good and really fresh! From freezer to oven, just followed the instructions on the package.

I am not compensated for writing about this- I am a customer and glad they are out there!

well hello tredyffrin- that’s some college kegger in mount pleasant…

Tredyffrin Township likes to ignore their panhandle, especially Mount Pleasant. You see, if they ignore this area, they can pretend that there aren’t off-campus college student keggers all of the time. This is an area overrun by off-campus student housing and quite a few student housing slumlords.

In blue tarp city in Mount Pleasant, which is what the college students here do to shield themselves from the neighbors while throwing keggers, although the neighbors have no choice but to listen to them, watch them pee in the street, watch them throw up, watch them leave, trash all over, etc.

This latest kegger started receiving people late this morning.

So I thought it was just the right thing to do to remind Tredyffrin Township that between the predatory ugly new development that is sitting unsold and the off campus student housing and their parties, they are quite literally ignoring and forgetting the residents.

buckle up

Buckle up, West Whiteland, and neighboring East Whiteland. You know this won’t be good.

What will this be? Who knows in the end, but whatever it will be, will probably be scrubbed of any vegetation or trees, and probably will be unsuitable for the area.

Our communities are worth more than crappy residential and industrial development. And this location is land that Johnson Matthey sold. Johnson Matthey was at one point in time also the successor owner to toxic Bishop Tube. So here’s hoping that this land is not also toxic, right?

This is a developer who doesn’t care about communities. He cares about his profit margins. And this is the developer that bought that hideous development at Ship Road and Route 30 in West Whiteland, which also means that we have him to thank for the Ship Road Couplet.

So now it seems that a lot of developers are hitting the pause button on residential development but they’re not necessarily hitting it on industrial development and it’s like warehouses are the new condo.

I guess there are no more apartments to build in West Chester Borough so he’s branching out?

Barf.

and they wonder why south jersey gets a bad rap?

Facebook is always a crazy place full of people that you can’t help but wonder about right? Social media is one big human gaper delay at times.

So what do are you supposed to think of a guy who is a small business owner apparently and a member of the Woodbury New Jersey Chamber of Commerce in South Jersey that I found and he has created not one but two groups to harass the owner of another Facebook group in South Jersey who is also a South Jersey small business owner?

The guy goes on Facebook as a John Joseph. He does all this publicly, so it’s perfectly fine to say this that he also owns an exterminating company called 1st Response Pest Control. And something called Badger Packaging.

So why would a guy with apparently not one but two small businesses want to hurt another small business and small business owner?

This is a woman that this person does not know. This is a person who essentially didn’t abide by the rules of her Facebook group and was removed. Now because he was removed, he’s been obsessed with ruining her Facebook group and it’s so bizarre.

It’s a big Internet and it’s an even bigger Facebook. Lots of people have Facebook groups, so why be so obsessed about being removed from one because you broke the group rules? I never understand that about people on Facebook. They want to be part of a group, but then they don’t want to follow the group owner’s rules. So why did they join the group in the first place?

This is not normal behavior. It’s downright odd. I don’t get it. Right now one of these groups is “temporarily paused.” Here’s hoping that this man finds something more constructive to do.

meanwhile…apparently in delaware county extreme hoarding is ignored in glen mills? seriously concord township?

I have zero clue who this person is. I don’t really know many people down in Glen Mills. However it is sadly obvious that this woman is reaching out for help, and I can’t even imagine how hard it is to put this on social media. And she says it is family.

I have a friend who does things like specializes in hoarder clean outs, and we all know from years of that sad TV show “Hoarders” that it’s based in mental illness and life traumas. So is there truly NOTHING Delaware County can do? Or State Representatives or State Senators?

I guess this just illustrates how many things having to do with mental illness are overlooked in Pennsylvania?

As this was publicly posted on NextDoor I am putting it out there maybe someone can help. I am guessing that Concord Township knows exactly where this house is so if you are a government official interested in helping maybe talk to them.

This is obviously a dangerous and tragic situation, and I hope someone from Delaware County can help this family.
