EIGHT years and a press conference was at 3 PM. Here is the video from the presser:
I never thought this day would come. I have been writing about a woman I never met for 8 years. When I got the text from a reporter I know I started to cry. I know it might sound dumb because I did not know her, but when you write about someone for eight years, you start to feel like you knew her. Ironically yesterday I shared the post I wrote in February to mark the coming of the 8 year anniversary.
Today authorities swarmed the house she built in Malvern where her husband Allan Jay Gould still lived with her little boy, Andrew. I hope Andrew is Ok.
This morning I devoted my time on WCHE All Politics Are Local with Barry Dee on a woman I never met, but am still concerned about because this could be any woman but I am speaking about Anna Maciejewska.
This is what I said and it will be podcasted later so you can listen if you missed it:
This week I am deviating from some of the usual topics to another topic which I feel strongly about. This week I am devoting my time to Anna Maciejewska, late of Malvern PA.
Specifically Charlestown Township since people from outside of Chester County who speak about Anna and Malvern, think all of Malvern is the main street town of Malvern Borough. As we all know, Malvern falls into multiple municipalities.
Anna Maciejewska disappeared around April 10, 2017. I say “around” because when Anna disappeared, it wasn’t her husband who initially reported her missing, it was friends and co-workers. According to police reports, family last heard from Anna on/around March 30 of 2017.
On March 30, Anna abruptly canceled a scheduled trip to Poland to visit family. It was to be her father’s 80th birthday. Her Polish family at the time said her final text message seemed to be non-native speaking Polish.
When Anna initially disappeared, there was a flurry of media exposure. As time goes by it has dwindled.
Anna was from Charlestown Township which is serviced by Pennsylvania State Police. I can’t think of the last time they updated the public on this case.
This year, 2025, marks EIGHT years since Anna disappeared. There have been 3 Chester County District Attorneys. Tom Hogan was DA when she initially went missing, then Deb Ryan before she became a judge, and now the DA is Chris de Barrena-Sarobe.
I have written about Anna so many times now I have forgotten the number of posts. I did not know her. But now we all feel like she is part of us and still missing.
I remember when I first started writing about her some of the Finding Anna people on Facebook were a smidge obnoxious and a few accused me of putting up a second Anna is missing Facebook page. I had put up no such page, but it was shortly after I was accused of this stupidity it was discovered some man had put it up. I am still waiting for some of those people to apologize. Some did, others did not. They had a page up, they were her friends and co-workers, I would NOT have detracted from their very personal efforts. All I was doing was writing about Anna being missing, and trying to do my bit to keep her name out there, as I continue to do today.
In 2018 I saw her missing start to be referred to as a missing person’s case and presumed homicide. Her husband Allan Gould was eventually named a person of interest.
Back when Anna was first missing, media reports said for more than a week before she was announced as missing, Anna’s mother Janina said she tried to reach Anna her daughter on her landline phone due to poor cell reception in her Malvern home. Once, her husband Allan Gould reportedly answered, saying Anna was sick and would call in a few days.
On Tuesday, April 11, 2017 Janina (her mother) said in an interview around the time that it happened that her son in law said Anna had left for work the day before and never returned. Anna worked at Voya Financial. I recently discovered that she appears to have been significantly younger than her husband. Her little boy, whose name I think is Andrew was around 4 when she disappeared. So, he’s around 12 now right? What is his life like? He probably no longer remembers the sound of Anna’s voice, or what it felt like to be held by her. Her parents did have to take the husband to court for visitation.
Anna has been the subject of so many podcast things. They range from making sense to wild theories like a recent one where the podcaster named Annie Elise made a stunning pronouncement about obviously Anna being jealous of her then little boy? I mean HUH? She also conflated Malvern Charlestown Township into Malvern Borough. This podcaster also seemed to the visits to Poland were unusual and why? I have three female friends who are Polish nationals by birth although US Citizens for decades at this point, and they are why I first took an interest. My friends ALL go back to Poland to visit. They ALL take their kids, etc. and still do so they also know their Polish heritage.
I also don’t think Anna was going to run away to Poland with her son and ditch an amazing career and house she created. I have always pondered if Anna was getting ready to exit a perhaps no longer so fabulous marriage. It happens.
I think it has been a long time since law enforcement and the District Attorney have seemed to take an interest here, rendering a woman with so much life left to live a cold case.
I get these cases can be impossible. But hi, hello, how about I am missing the feeling that anyone is trying or truly gives a darn at this point.
I think everyone deserves answers, her family and son most importantly. Say her name. Anna Maciejewska matters.
In April, it’s EIGHT years. I have been writing about this for eight years. I don’t even know how many times I’ve written about Anna Maciejewska at this point.
Eight years of nothing much. This case has gone through and has seemingly been forgotten by now three District Attorneys in Chester County.
Eight years of wondering what the Pennsylvania State Police are doing or have done.
Eight years of her husband Allen Gould being a person of interest unless the police have released him from that category?
I mean, I know the wheels of justice are slow, but do the wheels of justice even give a shit about this anymore? And yes I cursed.
This is also eight years of a little boy not having a mother in his life and he’s probably forgotten her voice by now don’t you think?
I’m writing about this again because there’s a new video out about it. I’m not sure how I feel about the video because one of the things that this podcaster mentioned is that Anna was jealous of her son and that was a reason for a bad marriage? I think that’s a bit of a reach. The woman sadly also is probably not familiar with the area because she conflated Malvern in Charlestown Township where Anna lived with Malvern Borough.
Malvern is a name assigned to areas in multiple municipalities which is separate from Malvern Borough. She conflated all of that into Malvern Borough. Also, we’re not a suburb of Philadelphia we’re Chester County. Development being what it is we have become more of a suitcase, community for major metropolitan areas, yes, but there’s plenty of business out here in its own, right. Anna Maciejewska lived in Malvern Charlestown Township. Malvern also exists in Willistown, East Whiteland, and Tredyffrin.
It’s now been eight years and this has gone through three district attorneys and the same old state police. It’s like nobody cares anymore.
Do I think like this woman seems to think the visits to Poland were unusual? Well, maybe if she had former Polish natives as friends she would see how normal it is my friends go once a year for a fairly long chunk of time usually in the summer, they take their children. They take their spouses. Sometimes they don’t take their spouses, but they go home to spend time with family and to give their children exposure to their Polish heritage.
Do I think that she was going to run away with her child to Poland to escape a bad marriage? No, I don’t at all. This is a woman who owned two houses. And people said early on that she was the money in the relationship. The properties are still in her name.
And the new podcaster seemed to leave the fact that Anna’s s parents had to fight to get visitation with their grandson. There’s a court record. So I wonder how often Anna‘s Polish family has been able to see her son in the last eight years?
so even if I don’t really agree with everything in this new podcast, I am grateful that the woman did it because it keeps Anna Maciejewska’s name out there.
Anna is still missing and I can’t even think of how long it’s been since we’ve heard from the Chester County District Attorney’s office let alone the State Police. Because Anna still had a property in West Whiteland Township, I wonder if their detectives could take a fresh look at this? Do the State Police have other investigators who could take a fresh look? Outside forensic investigators?A profiler of some sort?
Again, I never knew Anna. But she’s someone who belongs to all of us in the community out here at this point.
I am thinking of devoting my time on the Barry Dee show All Politics are Local on WCHE next week on this. and the funny thing is Barry and I had talked about this before. I saw this new podcast. She’s just been on my mind because we know the anniversary of her disappearing is coming up.
Anna deserves justice and her family deserves closure. Say her name.
Three hours ago, the Chester County District Attorney released the following on it’s social media feeds:
NEWS RELEASE: LOCAL POLICE OFFICER ARRESTED
The Chester County District Attorney’s Office announces the arrest of David Maurer, 55, for taking controlled substances for personal use from a medication collection box on November 20, 2024 (the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty). Maurer was charged with Possession of Controlled Substances and Theft by Unlawful Taking. Maurer, who was employed as a Detective Sergeant for the West Goshen Township Police Department, was arrested today and arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Martin Goch. Maurer was released on his own recognizance.
On November 20, 2024, Maurer was working as a law enforcement officer and tasked with emptying medication collection boxes located in the West Goshen Township Police Department and Chester County Hospital. The medication collection boxes are a part of a county program designed for the community to safely discard unwanted medication. After Maurer emptied the drop boxes, he removed several pill bottles containing controlled substances and retained them in his personal possession instead of delivering them to the collection site for safe disposal.
If you have any information about this case, please contact the Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866.
West Goshen Police Department released the following statement two hours ago:
West Goshen Police department acknowledges the incident and arrest and informs everyone that Sergeant David Maurer was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. There is no indication if this is paid or unpaid leave.
Look, this arrest is something I find profoundly disturbing and really sad. I guess I am just sort of incredulous that this happened. Law enforcement is human, and I am reminding even myself of that right now. Who knows why this happened. He is indeed innocent until proven guilty. Why I am having a hard time reconciling this in my head is because I did some research on some high profile cases he has bought home.
CHESTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A Pennsylvania police officer was arrested Thursday after officials say he stole drugs from a medication collection box while he was on duty.
The Chester County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release on Thursday that David Maurer, 55, stole the drugs while he was emptying the boxes on Wednesday at a police department and hospital.
Maurer kept pill bottles that had controlled substances inside them after he emptied the boxes out instead of taking them to the collection site for disposal, the DA’s office says.
Suicide rates for those in blue is about 184 per year as if 2024. Given the career of this man, which has been really kind of good, is there more to this story and will he be offered support? Seriously, if you search his name on the Internet, he is a closer. If you were going to profile him based on his case work, this doesn’t compute. If you ask other PD who have come in contact with him over the years, they will tell you he is good police. I do not know, nor have I ever met this man. But if you look at his body of work, my opinion is it seems out of character.
That’s all I have got. Is West Goshen under a curse? How will those supervisors handle this?
Here we are coming towards the end of year seven missing . In Chester County we are now on the third district attorney in office since she went missing.
Say her name. Anna Maciejewska.
I have lost count of how many times I have written about her on this blog, and I never met her. But I still think about her and I think about her especially around the holidays because I think of the little boy she had who is not so little anymore who has probably lost the memory of the sound of his mother’s voice.
I wonder what that boy thinks and feels? I wonder if he is happy? I wonder what his father her husband tells him about his mother? I wonder if he ever talks to his Polish grandparents and how they are?
There has been no activity on the Facebook page for Anna in forever. I went to see if the PA Crimestoppers bulletin was still up for her as a missing person and …oh it can’t be found.
I wonder if the Pennsylvania State Police still think about her because she is their missing person’s case. Or have they just put her in a dusty drawer in a dusty cupboard in a storage room somewhere?
Christmas is coming people. Let’s say her name a little. I’m going to share the old videos that I can still find on YouTube about her.
Anna Maciejewska is still missing. Here’s hoping for a Christmas miracle that the state police remember she’s one of their cases. Here’s wishing and hoping that the current Chester County District Attorney could blow the dust off the case folders and help a little.
So no one believes Anna Maciejewska Gould is still alive, right? But when I saw my female Polish friends posting about Easter preparation’s and their kids dying eggs I thought of Anna and her son. A son who now probably has zero memory of his mother. He has missed so many Easters now with his mother’s disappearance and probable death/murder. He ailing parents, separated from their grandson because of illness and a year of COVID-19.
What are the Pennsylvania State Police doing? Or the Chester County District Attorney?
I would love to ask current Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan for an update but don’t know how to do it. I also don’t want to sound like a bitch dogging law enforcement and the district attorney, but lordy people, is there any news?
I know “ongoing investigations” means folks in the know are tight lipped, but I think of Anna’s elderly parents and in the COVID-19 world in which we live and they live many thousands of miles away. When is the last time they saw their beloved grandson? He must be so big now, right? It makes you wonder if he has any memories of his beloved mother and if his father keeps her memory alive? Allen Gould, the perpetual puzzle, right? Anna’s presumed widower at this point and he has never really spoken of her has he?
Anna Maciejewska Gould has been missing FOUR LONG YEARS in just EIGHT days. As you celebrate Easter with your family and your children remember a woman who can’t celebrate any more holidays with her beloved child. I’m sure the authorities would wish we didn’t remember Anna because we do and we wonder what it is they are actually doing at this point, and what I personally suspect is not very much. Very unpleasant opinion but I am entitled to it.
Anna, I never met you. But I haven’t forgotten about you and on Easter Sunday may God have mercy upon your soul. Niech cię Bóg błogosławi.
What if this rundown house was your only choice for a home?
I am not deliberately trying to pick on East Whiteland Township no matter what some may think. But unlike many other municipalities (and I have been checking), East Whiteland does not have a person or people to regularly and routinely inspect rental properties in this township. They do not even have enough fire personnel to do all the life safety checks on rentals do they? (Asking the question because I heard there were people paid to do that I thought once upon a time out of the fire department or something?)
West Goshen (for example) has a rental property ordinance online. They have someone dedicated to rental inspections. That is in addition to the guys in the zoning department who inspect when the township gets complaints on rental properties.
The Borough of West Chester also has an ordinance and I am told as well as two dedicated rental property inspectors although residents say there are so many rentals they need more.
East Whiteland has a Rental Occupancy Report from 1992. I also found a form to fill out if you have a rental property. It mentions life safety, which is great and necessary. But I do not see anything about specific ordinances pertaining to rental properties and inspections of rental properties. And it is long past time to have that. East Whiteland is growing as a township and has grown exponentially in recent years. Does this township even know out of ALL of the new construction that is complete how many are rental units? And with ALL of the development still in the works and in various stages of construction, let’s get real, they are not all going to be owner occupied, aren’t some of these places going to be rentals? And what about the hotels? Are some of those like long term rentals at times? Sometimes when people can’t find housing they live in hotels/motels don’t they? Motor home parks? Trailer parks? No matter where the rental, shouldn’t people be safe?
Deception, coercion, recruitment, and abduction are just some of the tools of trade for traffickers.
Trafficking in America is a billion-dollar business in all 50 states, where women, children, and men are being exploited; their lives of no value other than the profits they earn.
Where sex trafficking can occur:
Moving around in your daily life, in the city, suburbs, rural areas
Transportation systems: Septa, Uber, and Lyft
Brothels (houses), motels, and major hotel chains
Escort services
Bars, strip clubs, high-end baller parties
Online via social media, such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
The stretch of Lancaster Ave/Route 30/Lincoln Highway where these rentals exist is a no man’s land. No one sees the people who live there, not because they aren’t visible but because people don’t want to see them. Mostly immigrant, with little choice in housing. And by culture, used to living in close quarters. So one would think rental inspections along that strip and elsewhere would make sense, right? So everyone was safe?
According to Patch, “The apartments used were at street addresses 483, 577 and 609 Lancaster Ave. in East Whiteland Township…”
Someone sent me screenshots off ChescoViews and Google Earth I guess it was (I am not very good at using Chesco Views):
This stretch of Lancaster is the one that looks so desolate and run down when you drive by except for the too many cars on the D’Ambrosio property (one of the sites of human trafficking right?):
People always ask how East Whiteland can be focused on this grand future of over-development without “seeing” these properties or their residents. During COVID19 especially when we were all at home, you couldn’t help but see as soon as the weather warmed up how many people live in these rental properties alone. I have also had people tell me in confidence that there are some awfully crammed rental properties in some of the townhouse developments.
So….maybe it is time for East Whiteland to look at this differently? They need an updated local ordinance on rental properties right? And I think they need a full time inspector of rental properties and possibly more staff, like maybe a part time one.
East Whiteland needs this NOW, yesterday and into the future. They have to find the money to have proper inspectors because I doubt there enough in the Fire Marshall category, and how much work are they supposed to do anyway? Aren’t they already stretched thin?
So you know how the fire by the Wawa was December 2016? How about that building which is uninhabitable has just sat there and rotted since then? Seriously here are some photos taken over the past few years (a real slum lord special, right?):
Photos taken between 2017 and 2020
I was a renter for years. Face it, a lot of us were, and some still are. Would you want to live in any of these properties? What if you had no other choice? And were these landlords in the human trafficking locations 100% oblivious as to what was going on?
I also want everyone to know as per my sources, the East Whiteland Police Department truly went above and beyond the call of duty with this. It wasn’t just this girl messaging family that went into this. For a smaller department by comparison to large cities and boroughs, they put lots of man and woman power into this.
East Whiteland Police Department did exhaustive investigation and follow-up and coordinating with all different kinds of other agencies and states and it really does show their dedication to our community. These men and women should be publicly recognized for their efforts. In a time when police departments are being criticized, these men and women deserve to be commended. Ok yes, this is the job they sign up for, but this is huge. Or in my humble opinion it is. And kudos to our Chester County District Attorney as well.
I have many questions regarding human trafficking an how it happened. I will be curious to learn if the families of these girls who were rescued had ever reported them missing? If they did not, why not? Immigration fears or something darker? I ask because if my kid was missing I would leave no stone un-turned.
However I think we need to work as an extended community to prevent these things from happening and I think that means they need to have a system in place in East Whiteland Township and elsewhere in which rental properties are routinely and regularly inspected. Everybody’s been talking about this strip of rental properties in particular for years it’s nothing new. And East Whiteland like many other municipalities in Chester County are experiencing crazy amounts of development and growth. Why not have developers who want to be in our communities chip into programs like this? Isn’t it kind of part of infrastructure and municipal services? I mean it’s all great that mythical theory of build it and they will come but who keeps track once the developers have gotten their money out of sites and moved on?
I am calling on people in East Whiteland and Chester County to contact East Whiteland Township and ANY OTHER TOWNSHIP that does not have proper rental property ordinances and inspectors to catch up with the times. A lot of municipalities like East Whiteland are experiencing growth that is off the charts. Renters deserve safe places to live. Low income residents deserve truly affordable housing and safe housing.
Be safe out there. Thanks for stopping by.
