so “yuletide” is moving…

The screenshot opening this post is when I first found out that Yuletide was leaving Devon .

Now Savvy Main Line has given us the scoop:

Yuletide has left the Main Line and will leapfrog the river to Lafayette Hill.

After considering Valley Forge Military Academy, Cabrini and Eastern College, Yuletide’s father-son founders, Rob and Jes Bickhart, inked a deal with the last venue they toured: Union League Liberty Hill golf club…. “If we had to do it over, would we have gone to the Devon Horse Show? Probably not,” Jes Bickhart tells SAVVY….A warm-weather venue, Devon required pricey winterizing and was simply too big, he says. Devon is 15 acres; Liberty Hill is five.

The smaller footprint “allows us to maximize our holiday decorations,” Bickhart says.

Having only 500 people at Yuletide Devon on a weeknight felt desolate. “But 500 people on a Wednesday night at the Union League will feel cozy,” he enthuses.

There have been rumblings that Devon’s brass was unhappy with Yuletide.

Sources shared concerns about the festival’s white “snow” cover and the possibility of broken glass from a wine vendor (glass is a no-no near horse show rings) affecting horses’ footing. Guaranteeing horse safety is critical to a show of Devon’s caliber.

But the horse show’s leadership has mostly refused comment.

“They had a one-year lease and we wish them well,” is about all Devon Horse Show President/CEO Wayne Grafton would tell us on the record….As for those other rumblings, i.e. that Yuletide didn’t draw the expected crowds and, as a result, couldn’t pay some contractors, Bickhart admits they’re true.

Yuletide attracted 80,000 people last year – a far cry from the Bickharts’ anticipated 120,000+. “But we owe our contractors “hundreds of thousands of dollars, not millions.” And no one has sued, he says.

SAVVY interviewed multiple, behind-the-scenes event production contractors who told us they weren’t paid in full – one even created the fictitious email account “Christmas Justice” to talk to us. But no one would go the record and one source retracted her words altogether.

According to Bickhart, Yuletide did $3 million in revenue last year and anyone who wasn’t paid in full is now being paid in installments….The festivals’ investors have not yet been paid, he says. Most are deep-pocketed Main Line associates of Rob Bickhart, who belongs to the Union League. “We’re on good terms with our investors,” says his son.

Several things stick out at first and foremost is what was said in the Philadelphia last year when this event was debuting at Devon horse show :

https://www.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/news/2023/09/12/yuletide-at-devon-holiday-festival-debut.html

So how does having a three-year agreement go to a one year lease?

I always wondered when it came to this if they set themselves up to fail at Devon or Devon set them up to fail?

I know when it was announced last year that the equestrian community was kind of up in arms about it because of the importance of the ring to the actual Devon Horse Show.

At first, I was excited at the idea of this because I love Christmas markets. I love Christmas things. I love Christmas. I love Christmas decorations. I love vintage and antique Christmas. Etc etc.

But then we learned how much it would cost to go and then we found out that parking was you know like $50 a car. Tickets to enter were also not inexpensive- they were $34.99 for adults last year and tickets for children ages 3 through 8 were advertised at like $22.99, while children under the age of 3 got in free. Season passes were available for $89.99 for an adult and $59.99 for juniors. And then there was parking gouging wasn’t there?

As a friend of mine noted:

Plus they initially charged 50 bucks for parking (later lowered to $30) . That’s what the horse show now charges, which is ridiculous for the horse show as well. But the horse show is the oldest in the country and benefits Bryn Mawr Hospital as its largest donor. Yuletide at Devon is a strictly for-profit endeavor.

And that always bothered me is that they were doing this and charging these prices and there was no nonprofit component. something at Christmas, you expect to have some sort of a nonprofit component don’t you ? It’s the season of giving except for these people it was the season of giving to themselves, apparently wasn’t it ?

Other people remarked that it was the kind of event the people who like to see themselves on Instagram took selfies for. Christmas and the holidays isn’t about social media influencers. I mean, it’s nice to see everybody’s holiday photos but that’s not what we’re talking about here, we’re talking about “influencers.”

I wrote about this event three times.

To sum it all up: I kept trying to look for reasons to like this event. I love Christmas, I wanted to love this event. I tried to keep an open mind but the event couldn’t get out of their own way.

I knew vendors, I could have gone for free, but every time I heard a review from personal friends who ponied up their Christmas gold to go, reviews were lukewarm to disastrous to flat out negative.

There were plenty of fluffy social media reviews from wannabe and self proclaimed influencers who like always we’re there for the free, and the selfies. And then there were the influencer adjacent like certain classes of professionals and service providers who thought they had to write puffy fluffy posts when the real time chatter was they didn’t actually have a good time were the way to go…maybe they should have just been honest? I mean do they think people don’t talk when they say they had a crap time but post it was a good as the Rockettes or something?

And that was what was so amusing to me about Yuletide – there was so much whispering behind hands. Much as is the case with Devon Horse Show today. Why not just be honest? Life is expensive at times, as well as short. Why not just say how you feel even if not 100% positive? And that is such a social media thing: unicorns farting rainbows only. Ever.

So other things. After Yuletide at Devon was done people started about the condition of the inside of the ring at Devon Horse Show. They call that the footing right? Is it true that this had to be pulled out and replaced? That is very expensive if true isn’t it?

And did they have to really use magnets to make sure there were no metal bits where expensive horses were eventually to tread?

Also when people have money you expect them to pay their bills right? So that means paying the service people and vendors right? This was like a cashless event, so you swiped and paid for everything except each vendor did not have their own point of sale did they? Money went to Yuletide and Yuletide paid out after? Or didn’t so much as per Savvy? Can you imagine being a small business and still not being paid what is owed even now? After shelling out to be a part of it?

People also constantly commented how empty the event was, even during times it was free.

Now Yuletide’s moving to a Union League owned golf club for 2024- it’s now Yuletide at Union League Liberty Hill, 800 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill. AKA “the other side of the river” and I think that is what I once knew as the ACE Golf Club. It’s not particularly easy nor convenient to get to unless you live over in that section of Montgomery County. Ticket prices are dropped sort of but I am still left with the “meh” of it all.

I am amused by the categorization of the investors by Yuletide’s owners. How long do they expect the investors to be understanding?

Also I noted something else interesting that they said to Savvy:

And if all goes well, the Philly burbs will be just the beginning. The two hope to bring Yuletide to Pittsburgh and Washington, DC next year.

So like Sesame Place but Christmas? Okayyyy (tacky much?)

Also at the bottom of the website for Yuletide it says “Spectacle Reality Inc”? What’s that?

Can’t find much….

https://www.jesbickhart.com/

https://www.bizapedia.com/de/spectacle-reality-inc.html

https://importkey.com/i/spectacle-reality-inc

I hope people enjoy themselves if they give Yuletide another go in Lafayette Hill this year but I still don’t think it’s worth it for me. Too many unanswered questions. Too much about the money and not the season.

I will continue to highlight true holiday traditions and events.

Thank you Savvy for the write up and of course this news once again brings up all of the questions swirling around Devon Horse Show and leadership doesn’t it?

district attorney charges in 400 leopard road.

so…. the story of 400 leopard road in berwyn has taken a twist

Neighbor photo

Yesterday I wrote about the lightening striking twice at 400 Leopard Road in Berwyn. We had watched the massive local media cover this home, a very historic home to Easttown and Berwyn beginning on May 1, 2024. Yesterday morning I received a call from a friend who lives in that area in tears about 400 Leopard Road in Berwyn again.

Guess what? It went up in flames AGAIN. July 23, 2024. Maybe once you would think was an accident, and honestly I never did, but twice? My opinion is that is not a coincidence is it?

Well….it’s now July 24, 2024 and guess what? The wife (or eventually to be ex-wife) of the couple who own the house is facing well…arson charges. It’s a twist. It’s a plot twist, but is it really unexpected?

Of course this is odd, because these were the original charges filed this morning and then mid-afternoon there was this:

Here is the docket as of 4PM, showing a bail bondsman and is she in or out of jail at this point?

So, yes, again, this is the wife. And the chatter has bene insane on social media. I am not repeating it, because who knows what is true? I think a lot of it is, but I have to ask something now about the FIRST fire on May 1: is it true that had be marked as a fire of undetermined origin? If so, does that change now? I am asking because since May 1st nothing much has been heard. Yesterday around 1 or so, the Chester County District Attorney posted a very brief statement: “The Chester County District Attorney’s Office is aware of the fire that has occurred in Easttown Township and are working with the Fire Marshal to determine how it started.”

This brings us to today. I don’t get the whole firebug thing. It’s a compulsion I suppose like shoplifting or something? But is this woman a firebug or desperately unhappy and perhaps mentally ill?

A perusal on the Internet shows she is a doctor:

Now I went to the civil dockets after the first file because I was told this was a divorce house. Prior to the first fire there was a realtor sign on the lawn:

May 1st or May 2nd photo found on Facebook somewhere.

Someone messaged me today just a little while ago:

Sugartown Road is still blocked from traffic between Lenape and Leopard Road. AND… there are people all about the house and some sort of “command station” under a blue tent there as well.

Here are a few photos from today, I will post more if I get them. One is from a local who lives near by and others are from fire companies like Radnor.

Now I could post the divorce and child custody dockets, but I am not. I have to ask though if the dates on the dockets of court related events are related to the dates of fires? One was May 1st, then the fire later that day? Then other momentous events recently? Do people think that is all coincidence? In my opinion it is NOT, which is why I question WHY the May 1st fire had undetermined origins?

https://patch.com/pennsylvania/te/crews-battle-house-fire-easttown-tuesday

Someone who once called that house home said today in a comment:

Breeze Hill was built tough to have withstood what she did to it as much as it did. Not that I have any hopes for it now… How destroyed this woman’s soul must be to have done such a thing as this.

So 6 ABC and reporter Leland Pinder and 6 ABC updated their story from yesterday, so allow me to share :

Chester County woman charged with arson after home catches fire twice in recent months

There you have it. That is a lot of the chatter I heard. Of course I want to know why a house with no electricity and wasn’t habitable had the pool opened? Will Kathryn Calmus Frankel be retroactively charged with first fire? And if she is out on bail, will she go back there again? And the ATF is now part of the investigation? Will we ever hear from the Fire Marshall? Will a lot of the neighbors stop being frosty to media, I wonder?

Sign me disgusted. This woman Kathryn Calmus Frankel put neighbors and first responders at risk. And she is a doctor to boot so what does the Hippocratic oath actually mean to her? In my opinion, perhaps a study in hypocrisy? A lot of our first responders include junior firefighters and among those ranks is my friend’s daughter whom I have known since she was in elementary school. And she destroyed a local historic asset too. That is despicable.

Now what we all will want to know is can this house be saved?

“berwyn square” and isn’t it boooteeeful?

Gosh, I love developers they’re so lovely and community-centric around here, aren’t they? This is what is supposed to be “Berwyn Square.”

What it is, is Berwyn weed patch/ shantytown/ rundown/ shithole. Take your pick. all adjectives, even vulgar apply.

Residents are once again concerned because this affects their surrounding property values while this developer decides whatever it is that is magical that is supposed to happen here. I think this was the same developer that once had Knickerbocker and now Toll Brothers does?

All I know is he likes to tell everyone he’s a local guy and he cares, so if he is a local guy and he cares go deal with your goddamn weeds, right?

Yes, we all know he is waiting to develop his property into a mythical Shangri-La. Hopefully it will look better than the behemoth hanging over the Berwyn Tavern, right?

This is Easttown Township, they should be dealing with this because they would NEVER allow a resident to not maintain a property like this would they?

And hey, this is Berwyn and technically the Main Line, not Manayunk or Roxborough, right ?

I mean they’ve been talking about Berwyn Square for years. At this point it’s time to either you know what or get off the pot. And regardless, the property should not remain a blight in the area and isn’t it interesting it became that whole blighted, icky look it has today as soon as it was kind of announced for development, right?

Enough already. Developer created blight is as bad as ugly developments, if not worse.

meanwhile in easttown, demolition by neglect at 32 waterloo avenue?

First I will start with somewhere under ALL of this mess is supposedly a house built in 1890. It was bastardized in the 1960s. I wonder what it originally looked like? Someone had said it was possibly a stable or livery originally, so an adaptive reuse would be normal for modern living but LOOK at what neighbors have to literally look at today?

I went looking in ChesCo Views to see who owned the property and obviously it’s an investor or investment group. There are a few properties involved.

Here’s what I found in public records:

Dilapidated property

I don’t have all the details but I asked around and apparently 32 Waterloo was part of an original plan for an office building?

I found these old articles:

Local scuttlebutt has it that they weren’t actually able to do what they originally wanted to do. So houses that they owned were rehabbed and rented out I have been told.

So here’s an excerpt from a 2008 article in Main Line Media News (you know back when our local news was actually reported by our local papers and not disemboweled by hedge funds):

Anger was the word of the evening – or at least the most memorable word – at Tuesday night’s Easttown Planning Commission meeting when Michael McNulty, who is applying for land-development and conditional-use permits for the proposed Waterloo Complex on his property in Berwyn, became upset with the commissioners and stormed out of the room.

Because only two members of the Planning Commission attended Tuesday’s meeting, there was no quorum, and it was unclear why the absent members did not show.

However, chairman Mitch Shiles and commissioner Joe Tamney stayed to hear requests and presentations from community members.

OK so apparently this guy McNulty’s entity still owns these properties correct? I just pulled the records today off of ChesCo views, right? So it kind of makes me laugh because it’s almost like when people threaten to leave a Facebook page or a Facebook group, but they never do?

I remembered when all of this was happening at the time I just never knew what happened to it as an issue until someone posted a picture of 32 Waterloo Ave. over the weekend.

Back to local scuttlebutt. Somewhere along the line, thank heavens, plans for an office building in the middle of Berwyn‘s historic village fell apart. Now, if I recall correctly, when this first started, some of the people in Berwyn came to us at the then Save Ardmore Coalition (now defunct) to ask us how we organized. I also seem to remember now that I’ve started digging back into this that this was covered at the time on the Save Ardmore Coalition blog because we did cover other areas. And at that point the site had multiple bloggers.

So I found all the articles that exist on coverage of this issue of these properties being consolidated for an office building in Berwyn’s historic village. What I was told by locals is that at some point after all of this, the man that owned the properties fixed up all the others and rented them out.

However this one property at 32 Waterloo Avenue has something wrong. I don’t know what the deal is but sitting like this you know something happened right?

So Easttown what is the deal? Intentional blight? Demolition by neglect? It’s also concerning because this is an area of Berwyn that has a lot of investment properties. And if one gets to slide by on subpar standards of property upkeep, the others might follow? Or one would think a real estate holding company like Eadah, that takes reasonably decent care of their properties and has property in that neighborhood might also be bothered by this ?

I honestly don’t know what’s going on, but I will close with a little montage of Google Earth photos of this property at different times over the years.

You be the judge.

easttown are you trying to kill the village feel that is old berwyn?

That monstrosity literally made my friend and I stop the car and stare. We were coming back from stopping in at Surrey in Berwyn.

I mean seriously, what is Easttown thinking?

It’s horrible and hideous and I’m sure will be incredibly overpriced and sell anyway.

But it is not in keeping with the village or the architecture, or even the scale of most of the houses.

Rant over.

so truth in campaign advertising much in easttown?

One of my readers was nice enough to send this to me. It is a campaign sign for Republican supervisor candidates in Easttown has been driving me crazy since they started to go up.

Why has it been driving me crazy?

Simple. There is NO EIT IN EASTTOWN TOWNSHIP! EIT was discussed and my memory recall said it was withdrawn. So I asked a couple of Easttown meeting watchdogs and this was the response I got:

Yes. You are correct. They still have to fund first responders so they are doing it through property taxes. Residents in Easttown pay more than $2m in EIT to other townships and none is recaptured.

So in Easttown, I thinking on election day that you do not wish to vote for the candidates who should be wearing Dumb and Dumber t-shirts.

military charter school being proposed in rtsd back for another hearing (and will be before tesd eventually) and a charter school is coming for a bite at the education apple in wcasd.

Wake up media, you have stories unfolding requiring immediate attention. The same can be said for residents in two Chester County school districts and on Delaware County school district.

I actually have mixed emotions at this juncture about charter schools. When our son was in school, it was a God send due to bullying issues that were not being dealt with in public school as well as the fact we had serious issues when he was in an elementary school that was supposed to be one of the best and in some cases, there were NO books for subjects like history. We sent him to Renaissance Academy Charter School in Phoenixville. There were ups and downs as is the case with any school, but it was a good experience, and they placed a high percentage of kids in great schools. IT still is an academic alternative that I think is serving 20 or 21 school districts at this point.

But now I am starting to look at charter schools with different eyes. Because of the new kids coming to the table in 2023. Specifically in WCASD (West Chester Area School District) and RTSD (Radnor Township School District). And the one for RTSD will also involve TESD (Tredyffrin Easttown School District.)

I will start with WCASD because that is where a charter school that is kind of coming on a stealth basis. Valley Forge Classical Academy Charter School. They say they have non-profit status, only it’s a little hard to find anything, not even a website announcing who they are, their board of directors, etc. They do have a Facebook page and please note how they get their jollies, making it quite clear what they are about:

First up? A fundraiser has been established on Give Send GO:

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DONATING!

Gosh, they had me at indoctrination. You know right there, what this is about, don’t you?

The woman who established the fundraiser is referred to in this WHYY article from 2022:

And now there is an open house on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at 21 Hagerty Blvd in West Chester where all the Stepford Wives for Totalitarianism gather for meetings sometimes:

Jan 28

OPEN HOUSE – VALLEY FORGE CLASSICAL ACADEMY CHARTER SCHOOL

ANNOUNCING OUR FIRST OPEN HOUSE FOR PROSPECTIVE FAMILIES IN THE CHESTER COUNTY AREA!

By VALLEY FORGE CLASSICAL ACADEMY SCHOOL BOARD

Come and meet members of the board and learn about a classical education. Valley Forge Classical Academy Charter School is slated to open in the Fall of 2024 for K-8 students. Each year we will add one year of our high school program and graduate our first class in 2030!

Seems lot o’ stuff happens at 21 Hagerty Blvd in West Chester in as far as certain political based gatherings? So this would be a charter school in WCASD BUT will it meet the requirements of public schools? This school tried before didn’t they? Or is this another proposed school with some of the same players?

Does West Whiteland know about this since they seem as if they are looking at property in West Whiteland? Get out the #popcorn because the Stepford Mommies for Totalitarianism will want this school and like their behavior in school districts will want the taxpayers paying for this too. I will say honestly, that the lady running the fundraiser? Has a lot of charter school experience, so she is sharp.

Now back to Radnor Township School District. And people in Tredyffrin Easttown School District need to pay attention because this is a charter school being proposed at Valley Forge Military Academy and College’s campus, which straddles a couple of municipalities and counties, doesn’t it? And who exactly recruited this school to Valley Forge’s campus? Was it in fact Valley Forge Military School and College which as we know got rejected on their own application prior to this one?

I first bought you the odd tale of Radnor and Pennsylvania Military Charter School at Valley Forge on December 15th, 2022:

Then the Philadelphia had a whopper of an article on Christmas Eve. My late father always said big news sneaks in on weekends and holidays and not enough people pay attention.

Philadelphia Inquirer: For a second time, a charter school is being proposed at Valley Forge Military Academy
Unlike the last proposal, which was put forward by the military academy, the latest application is being advanced by backers with no formal ties to the Main Line private school.

Updated Dec 24, 2022

SO….has Tredyffrin Easttown School District (TESD) scheduled their hearing yet? Here is the entirety of the January 17th Radnor School Board Meeting:

Here are 3 smaller videos which pulls out some crucial public comment:

This all gives me pause. Essentially, I have to ask if these people wanting to start charter schools which all supposedly have Pennsylvania non profits but will really be run by entities in other states should even be allowed to open charter schools in Pennsylvania?

And of course, then you have to wonder how they will deal with what public schools are required to have and do have as far as the many complicated issues facing public schools? And will they be fair and equal and non discriminatory in all areas including sexual and gender identity? And why should people have to watch their tax dollars get siphoned off for schools started by people who have so many issues with public schools that haven’t been upheld by the courts over the past few years? Gender/sexual identity, books they don’t like, masking, vaccines, etc.? Why are taxpayers supposed to pay for their peculiarities?

Truly if you have time, watch and listen to the recent Radnor meeting. And remember that is not just a concern to residents in the Radnor Township School District service area in Radnor Township Delaware County but also in Tredyffrin Easttown School District in Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships in Chester County. Interesting things include a website possibly intimating approval – https://www.military.academy/valley-forge when they are far, far from it. They do not seem to have a business plan but they have plans for a course of study called ethical hacking. And as this hearing goes on , the charter presenters seem to become well, combative and uneasy.

With both of these proposed charter schools there seem to be many troubling questions, sadly. Here’s hoping the media steps up and really digs in.

Again, in conclusion, I am not against charter schools in the least. But these two give me pause. Also is there really a need for their brand of charter?

Stay tuned.

#saveberwyn (pass it on)

These are not my words to follow. They are the words of a friend. These are words he is saying publicly, so I am sharing them. Easttown is on the verge of once again destroying Berwyn.

much ado again…and again….and again….about devon horse show

My photo. 2012.

Apparently, dark days have returned to the Devon Horse Show?

With regard to The Devon Horse Show there is always SO much floating around in the past few years, and it makes you wonder because when it comes to Devon and drama, the truth is always stranger than fiction, correct? We’ve already had years of the reported “punisher” when it comes to boxes, yes? Who stays, who goes, who gets moved?

And then there was what REALLY was the truth last year with the cancelling of Devon? Was that US Equestrian or Devon?

One hears so many things, right? Like stuff about the intricacies of hiring police to do traffic control which I might add they HAVE to do, and they should say THANK YOU? I mean let’s get real: nouveau Devon has quite the emphasis on cocktails, doesn’t it?

Then there is the whole who would benefit if Devon ever failed? And the biggest Clydesdale in the room for a few years of WHO WOULD BENEFIT IF THEY HAD TO SELL THE LAND AND WOULD IT BE DEVELOPED?

Why does everything about Devon always feel like Main Line Watergate?

Somewhere in heaven the late great Michael Morrison is shaking his head, isn’t he?

It seems like under the current regime, there is always something newer and more jackassy than the last time we heard anything

So lo and behold, as the court dockets did tell so very recently, Devon Horse Show is suing Easttown Township and Caroline O’Halloran and Savvy have all of the gory details and here is an excerpt:

Devon Horse Show sues Easttown

MAY 5, 2022 / BY CAROLINE O’HALLORAN

I guess I should remind Devon Horse Show that the First Amendment works both ways, right? That I can have my opinions and share media resources of prior articles on THEM? That I can say something here smells like a pile of manure in August?

My photo. Devon 2007

Ok Devon Horse Show, what’s REALLY going on? For real, for real? And the free speech component? Well that made me laugh out loud because Lamb McErlane are the attorneys, as in the Bishop Tube Slapp Suit attorneys. And one of the other attorneys in particular? Well he was in the news a few years ago over some business over fees, correct? Truthfully I would love to read the complaint, anyone have it?

So we can hypothesize over Devon’s impetus but it comes down to money and it’s not just Easttown’s fees is it? Is there more? There HAS to be more, right? Because one can’t HELP but wonder if this is part of a larger campaign to shutter the horse show and sell the land?

Oh and speaking of boxes, remember their missive to boxholders in 2020 after COVID cancelled the show. It was like pay up buckaroos and I found it in rather poor taste at the time :

In 2015 remember when their website got hacked? Here:

And then of course, remember when they cancelled the show last year but held the carriage pleasure drive? THAT went over like a fart in church with a lot of people.

That Chairman is quite the Dandy. His outfits are very Gilded Age Robber Baron at times, yes? Very To The Manor Born Super WASP, right? But is that the real deal or just a projected persona?

Oh and back to the 2020 cancellation. Back then they didn’t seem to know their own history?

13 times over it’s history Devon has been canceled:
As in….it was not held 13 different years.
Devon Horse Show chronological history
1896 – 1900: Show held either at the Polo Grounds or the lawn of the Devon Inn
1901 – 1909: No show held.
1910 – 1917: Show held at the Polo Grounds.
1918: No show held; War Relief Show was held in June and benefited Emergency Aid
1919 – 1942: Show held at Polo Grounds. Grounds purchased in 1920.
1943 – 1945: No show held. Dog show and Country Fair held 1943 and 1944.
1946 – 2019: Show held.

Another Devon thing I do not understand is why they didn’t mention on their Facebook Page or website when one of their big volunteers and board members died? I did not know her personally, but I am shaking my head at the fact that they haven’t said a peep that I can find, and she passed away in March of this year. I think it displays yet more rather bad form, actually.

My point of recounting the recent history of Devon Horse Show is something needs to change. It’s all so unsavory. They need new leadership and someone to clean house. Now I divorced myself from Devon a few years ago when I could no longer abide nouveau Devon, as in the people who were prancing around there, much like Radnor Hunt, who did not know one end of a horse from the other and lots of them deserved little pebbles in their ridiculous heels at a horse show to match the pretension.

My photo. Also maybe 2012.

Devon of my childhood was so different. I am sure there was drama because non-profit events always have drama….but the difference is back then it was not so glaringly apparent and the Devon Fudge tasted good. And there were fun antiques dealers and Bryn Mawr Hospital Thrift Shop had a little “store” in that weird little cottage thing. And the horses! The thrill of the Clydesdales and the carriages.

Devon was so special in so many good ways. But Devon now? It’s the school for scandal.

Blech.

I am with Easttown Township on this unsavory and embarrassing business.
