Have you been to Brick and Brew in Malvern Borough?
Tonight was my first visit.

The place is HUGE. And they put money into it. It’s very cool looking. And very clean.
The staff is nice and even on a Monday the place was hopping. I will note it seemed like they did need more floor coverage.
We were seated at a little deuce and that was fine. What wasn’t fine was there was seriously the LOUDEST woman behind me ever. I am not exactly quiet, so that’s saying something. This woman because she was so loud was in EVERY conversation at every table around her because she was so LOUD. I really did not need to know about her life. I couldn’t easily have a conversation with my husband until she left.

My husband ordered a burger and I had the buttermilk chicken sandwich.
Both were meh at best.
The burger was supposed to have a pepperoncini relish. Either they were the mildest pepperoncini ever or the relish was missing.
The chicken sandwich had serious potential but the chicken was over cooked sadly. It had this slaw on it that I could have had an entire separate order of it was THAT good.

I don’t really find the food to be that exciting. It needs work. It has potential but it needs work. And they need to ditch the special homemade ketchup. I am not going to sugarcoat it, it’s gross. It doesn’t taste like ketchup and it looks like barbecue sauce but doesn’t taste like barbecue sauce either. It’s thin, salty, and essentially flavorless.
This is a really cool looking place with I am told great brews (I don’t drink beer) but the food needs fixing. The menu has gotten smaller since they opened I am told. But I think they need to tweak it some more and cook the food more consistently.
The bar seems packed and they are packing them in so business is good. Once they work out the kinks, we will give it another try.

UPDATE:
I received a little slut shaming via the pub’s social media pages. I could’ve been a lot more harsh with my review. But I was honest. And if you go to Yelp or any other place that allows reviews of restaurants and includes this establishment you will see that I am not alone in my opinion, and in a lot of cases I was a lot nicer than a lot of other people.
As someone who wrote this perspective as a customer, I don’t think I will ever go back because if they don’t like my opinion as a customer and they are going to try to slut shame me on social media for having my opinion, why am I going to go back in and spend my hard earned money in their establishment?
FURTHER UPDATE:
Some people who wrote comments stating they thought the restaurant’s behavior towards me or any less than satisfied customer have had their comments removed. Or snarky comments were left in response assuring people they could just call or stop in so why then did no one return my call? Their victim? I guess their doing this makes them feel better. Which is kind of sad and pathetic.

My opinion is my own. We went in for dinner like everyone else. I am sorry my review isn’t 100% but it just doesn’t live up to the hype. But the place is new and I am hopeful they will improve. I however at this juncture given their social media hissy fit will NOT be going back. Nor will I recommend it.
If this social media hissy fit is their example of customer service well it speaks volumes.

I am not a fan of the color scheme which was chosen (too blah beige) but the new apartment building on King in Malvern Borough really looks good. It’s not quite done as you can see from the lawn that isn’t a lawn yet, but I like it.
They put a lot of time and attention into architectural design and detail. And it’s all the way around the building not just a false front, which is the case most of the time.
Everyone always thinks I hate every bit of development. The truth is, I don’t. When you have people like this who are thoughtful about what their finished product is going to be I totally respect that. These people put a lot of time and effort into trying to make their building blend with the surrounding area and structures. It’s a modern building with homage to the past.

As 2018 draws to a close, light a candle for the missing. I have lit two bay candles.
One candle is lit for Geoff Partridge of Villanova.
One candle is lit for Anna Maciejewska Gould of Malvern.
They have people who love them and the families deserve the answers they seek. My wish as I lit the candles are for the missing to find their way home.
I know neither of these missing people personally, but this could happen to any family.
Here’s hoping the new year brings answers and the missing do indeed find their way home.
Thanks for stopping by.

…He had me at “spiritual gangsta” !
Haven’t seen a VW like this in forever.
I hope my blog critics don’t find this to be overly liberal propaganda… it’s just enjoying what you see in the world.
And this guy’s VW made me smile.

(File under we don’t need farms and open space in Chester County, do we?)

This gallery contains 37 photos.
Savvy Main Line had a piece this week about Malvern Borough’s new kids on King, Anders Ruff (“AR”) Workshop.
I had some time this afternoon and had to make quick stops at Kimberton Whole Foods and Up Home, so I stopped in.
Ok so….it’s a super fun spot and I look forward to checking out an event soon! I met Gemma and she was so nice to just let me wander around and snap a few photos.
I think this will be a fun spot and I envision many DIY events that will bring more folks into Malvern Borough. And because it is arts and crafts centric maybe Malvern Borough should start thinking in terms of arts events and sidewalk sale days. The festivals are great fun, but there is so much more you could do.
What would be really cool would to bring arts and music together and involve the merchants, and galleries, but I digress.
My friends will tell you I am not a chalk paint person but other kinds of crafts? Like what is being offered at AR Workshop in Malvern? That sounds fun!
My pick for one of their upcoming events happens April 14th. Denise Sabbia from the Painted Home and design coordinator for one of my favorite shows, Stone House Revival will be teaching a workshop! (Register HERE and learn more about the event!)
Check out AR Workshop Malvern on the web and on Facebook. They are at 233 E. King Street in Malvern Borough. Their phone number is 620-783-3113 .
And as always I have not been compensated in any way for this post. I wrote this post because I went and checked out a new business and loved it!
Thanks for stopping by!

Earlier today a young guy from a new restaurant stopped by my husband’s office. A new authentic Mexican Restaurant has opened in the old Verona spot at 288 Lancaster Avenue in Malvern (East Whiteland).
It’s called Dalia’s Authentic Mexican Food.
And just so there is no confusion: I am a new customer. I received nothing for this post. I was not compensated in any way whatsoever.
Dalia’s is a delight. A total delight. The food is amazing. Delicious. Fresh.
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the restaurant is bright and cheerful and so incredibly clean.
These folks worked hard to rejuvenate the old Verona space because it was rather run down and dirty when Verona made their exit.
That delicious looking sandwich you see is their Torta Azada.
We ordered for takeout (and the food was gone before I could photograph it!) Chicken Enchiladas, Shredded Beef Enchiladas, Azada Burrito, and a Tinga Quesadilla (chicken mixed with Chipotle and onion.)

Did I mention it was like the food evaporated it was so good?
Everything was fresh and the flavors balanced.
I am a guacamole snob and their’s passed the test. And I treated myself to a Mexican Coca Cola.

Dalia’s will be dine in, take out, and delivery.
Their hours will be:
Monday – Thursday 6:00 am to 10pm
Friday 6:00 am – 5:00 pm
Saturday CLOSED
Sunday 6:00 am – 10:00 pm
Oh!!! And they make breakfast!!!!
Their menu is just the right size I think and not too large and overwhelming- which is a mistake a lot of restaurants make.
They do NOT have a liquor license. I am NOT sure if they will be BYOB, so call and ask if you go in – don’t presume.

Their phone number is (484)- 320-8446.
Their address is 288 Lancaster Avenue Malvern, PA 19355
Their website is daliasauthenticmexicanfood.com
Please go check them out and I hope you enjoy their food as much as we did !
Ample free parking and easy access from Lancaster Avenue.

Tonight we went to Malvern’s Victorian Christmas. I have sponsored a lamp post Christmas tree the past couple of years and we couldn’t go last year. Sadly I did not find my tree but serendipity was the word of the evening. We did a little shopping, had dinner….and strolled.
While we were strolling I noticed the sign photographed above. I had seen it fly by on Facebook- it is the new gallery next to Gallery 222 on King Street (which was also so much fun this evening as a matter of fact!)

Painted Fine Art & Gallery Coming Soon the sign said. The gallery exterior was warm and festive. So I had to check it out, and I am so glad I did, as this is definitely Malvern’s next treasure! (you heard it here first😊)
Inside the studio greeting people was the gallery owner and artist, Sharon Henderson McHugh.
I have an affinity for artists to be sure, but Sharon is someone you would just like if you met her somewhere else. Warm and welcoming, and her art is amazing I think. She has a tremendous sense of color, texture, and light. Her subjects also come to life on the canvases – each has a vibrancy.
Her middle room were portraits and portraits of nudes. Nudes can be extraordinary if they are painted by the right artist. Sharon is in the photo above, and I photographed her next to the nude that is my favorite. I also love the garden scene which is the last photo in this post.
I am sorry I did not take more photos of her art. She also has some pencil drawings which are exquisite.
I look forward to the gallery’s opening and you will definitely want to check it out.
#ShopLocal and go to Malvern’s Victorian Christmas tomorrow! So much fun!
