This is right next to the Whitford Train Station. Whitford is pretty busy. I think somebody told me a few hundred people use this train station every day or almost every day. And the thing about it is commuters have to use this railroad tunnel to get from one side of the station to the other, depending on where they get on and get off.

Old Google Photo

I even found a video from August that some train spotter who post videos of trains on YouTube posted:

Trains are a mode of transportation and anywhere there are train stations and train tracks, there are underpasses.

And people always say things like “why can’t they change the bridges and tunnels” no matter where it occurs whether it’s Exton like yesterday or the center of Wayne in Radnor Township like a few days ago. The railroads can’t just magically lift and rebuild tunnels everywhere and they won’t because that isn’t going to solve the problem of people in trucks that don’t know the dimensions of what they are driving.

Other things to be considered or when the roads are done when the roads are done, the distance in the tunnel might get a little shorter, but again, most of these people don’t seem to pay attention to the dimensions of the trucks. They’re driving so they don’t even take that into consideration.

But the tunnel like this one on Whitford? It also affects commuters, who have to use the tunnel as pedestrians to cross from one side to the other of the station.

No matter what happens or doesn’t happen with the railroad underpasses, no matter how many warnings or low beams or warning, beams or signs are put up, it’s still up to the truck drivers knowing the dimensions of what they are driving and where it is safe to travel with what they are driving.

I remember when the Waze app came out how it wreaked havoc with railroad underpasses everywhere because the app just saw a better route with less traffic congestion, it didn’t see the underpasses. I don’t know if any of these direction apps have evolved enough to recognize there are railroad underpasses or not. So again, drivers can’t depend just on the app, directing them where to go. They have to know the areas in which they are driving, and that includes the heights and depths of railroad underpasses versus the dimensions of their freaking vehicles.

The driver yesterday could’ve killed himself with that beam coming down or a pedestrian or another car.

So I’m going to get off my soapbox now, but this is as infuriating as the people who drive through our covered bridges with trucks that are too big and destroy them.

Rant over.

life in the land of women 2024

2024 has been an interesting year for so many reasons. And as a woman, I find it somewhat perplexing and the reason for that is because I really don’t understand some of my own species.

First up are people you are not connected to in any way any longer. I mean there are people I’ve said before. It’s that old saying reason, season or lifetime.

Recently I had someone who belongs in the category of season. Send me a Facebook friend request. This was after she kind of did me dirty a few years ago. And it was really dirty and mean. I moved past it and am happy to run into her on occasion, but that’s as deep as it goes.

Once upon a time I had been Facebook friends with this person, but then when they were basically talking about me behind my back to curry favor with other women, I just quietly unfriended them. So that was a question of trust, and once trust is broken with me, I really can’t go back.

Trust is a big deal in any kind of relationship and some people can just go on like nothing happened, but I can’t. Ask an ex-boyfriend from like 35 years ago. He cheated and that broke trust and I tried to get past it but yeah no, it was over. I guess he was a reason and a season.

And then recently, I realized who some particularly unpleasant women who are older than I were. Many years ago when my friends and I were single and much younger, we used to run into this certain crowd of women at parties.

If you’re a woman, you’ve all met these women. They are the ones that used to literally block the way to food or alcohol at parties (1) because they drank too much and (2) because the men had to go past them.

I remember one of them from a few years ago and she had become so unpleasant that she was a reason I stopped volunteering somewhere Or should I say one of the reasons. Knew everything much better than everyone else. Arch and rude. And stupid.

Now these women are masquerading as church ladies and church lady volunteers. Only they aren’t really literally or figuratively church going ladies. It’s more like a great launching pad for post menopausal mean girls. I figure water seeks its own level and people will figure it out but in the meantime maybe they want to keep it to a dull roar?

They are being a little obvious and I doubt one in particular wants to be outed given the perpetually popular Main Line boutique slightly west of Wayne which employs her? But hey when you use public places like cute boutiques as a place to pour your nasty tea, people are happy to spill the tea on them, right? And all of these babes? Petty.

Petty drives me crazy. It’s so completely unnecessary yet, it’s a popular female tool. had that directed at me today. And it was very disappointing because it’s somebody I’ve known for a very long time. But relationships, evolve and change and I think this one is just evolving out of the season. I hope that I am wrong, but if I am honest it’s been changing for quite a while.

First it’s little things like you always used to drop everything when they needed to talk and then when you need to talk, your call goes to voicemail. Now there’s always a reasonable excuse afterwards and they used to be a half hearted apology, and then the apologies just stopped. And the other person is so wrapped up in whatever that they really didn’t notice that you no longer even call to check in.

This is someone who I could just be outgrowing. It gets to a point where you need to take a hint. Some relationships evolve well as we age, but some just don’t. It’s sad but people change. It doesn’t make them bad people, or you a bad person, it just is.

I think in some cases when you know that you are dealing with someone who has a hard time letting people in in the first place, it’s almost not a complete surprise that you simply may have gotten too far behind the proverbial curtain. It’s easier for them to be superficial versus deep. Deep for a lot of people is uncomfortable and that’s actually okay.

I find that the older I get I don’t actually need to have as large an intimate circle. I like people, I like being around people, but I like my friends circle. We know each other and we trust each other and not all want that. Not all can handle that.

Then there are the women that you genuinely like, but as friends, you sometimes wonder why they want to be friends with you. And then you realize a lot of times for the information you can provide or the introduction you can make or a door you can open. Sometimes as we age it’s harder to recognize the users.

And the thing that sucks when you’ve encountered some who go into the category of users, is then when you meet somebody you genuinely like, but you’re just cautious. This is why. So then you take longer to get to know someone and then you just hope that they understand.

One of the things I have noticed again in 2024 is how you have all these women who belong to female groups, they believe in female empowerment and they’re basically so miserable to one and other. And heaven forbid you not fall exactly ly where they want on their Stepford wife checklist then they’re miserable to you too, and you don’t even want them as a friend.

Then my last category is if you ever encountered the women who are friend blockers? Most simply put you know people in common, but you are not friends. Only maybe they’re not so sure about their particular friendship with the people you share in common so they literally block you from your mutual acquaintances and friends.

I’ve had that happen and I was talking to a friend of mine last week who was telling me about something similar that happened to them with someone and it’s just kind of one of those things that takes your breath away. You’re not trying to compete with them for your mutual people’s attention yet they are competing. As a matter of fact, my friend last week told me about how incredibly mean someone was because she was literally guarding her friendship with a mutual friend of theirs. Life is too damn short for that bullshit.

Life is also too short for the people that you invite to do things who will bail at the last minute. Now life happens sometimes that’s the way it is, but then you meet these people and that is all they do. It’s hurtful and you start to question the relationship. After all, we would all like to be valued as a friend all of the time, not just certain occasions when it’s more convenient than other times. There are some people over the past couple of years that I don’t even think they realize I’ve quietly just faded away because I was tired of being a friend of convenience.

So here I am getting towards the end of 2024. I’m definitely older, and I hope a bit wiser.

But I do have to wonder. I don’t want to become completely jaded.

Thanks for stopping by.

pet peeve: lazy fire lane parking

Gosh we wouldn’t want fully ambulatory lazy as F shoppers to be inconvenienced while picking up booze and QVC, right?

This is a total pet peeve. Especially when it’s not a far walk to regular parking spaces. In Frazer at Lincoln Court shopping center, it’s a particular pet peeve because you have older shoppers from the grocery store who park in the legitimate spots, including handicap spots who nearly get hit because these people parking in the fire lanes and on the sidewalk block site lines. and yes, East Whiteland Police ticket all of the time.

Now another place where they do it, and this one young woman was caught this morning. Doing it with an empty parking lot around her. I am talking about the Wawa in Malvern Borough.

The woman who got out of the car was like 20s or 30s and the parking lot was empty. And she didn’t have a limp or a cast or was escorting an older person out or getting a giant order she couldn’t possibly carry.

Just lazy meets entitled.

This is as bad as the people who are not handicapped who park in handicap spaces.

My favorite handicap parking. Space story was many years ago. Circa 2010 in the Acme parking lot in Bryn Mawr.

I had just pulled in to do some grocery shopping and a teenager with an elite private school sticker on the back of what was probably his father‘s car pulled into the handicap parking. Space that was right there in the front by the door. I looked at the kid and I said where’s your handicap placard. And he looked at me and sneered and said “well, why would I listen to you? You look like you’re driving your net worth in that old Jeep.”

I love a good misplaced sense of entitlement. I also love the fact that police used to frequently drive-by the Acme day and night because it was so easy to get a ticket written because there’s always somebody who wasn’t handicapped parking in a handicap spot.

And I see the abusers of handicap parking spaces as well as fire lane parking often in places like downtown Wayne along N. Wayne Ave. and in the parking lots behind some of the shops. And it’s always funny in Wayne because the meter attendants seem to see the expired meters, but they don’t seem to see the people who aren’t handicapped parking in handicap spots, etc.

I don’t understand why people have to park in fire lanes and handicap spots. I especially don’t understand it when there’s usually plenty of parking close enough by and there’s no legitimate reason for doing this. It’s just laziness or entitlement.

It’s also wrong.

Rant over.

life and local-ish politics

I have been musing about stuff. Sometimes I feel the need to write about something, only I have to chew on it a while or sleep on it. In this case, it’s been a few days.

It’s about the state of things locally and regionally. No not nationally. Nationally is what it is. No amount of breast beating will change anything right now. Also? Quite frankly I am tired of the excuses of state and local elected officials that everything s the fault of national politics.

It’s not.

We are here in our own corner of the country. People have to go on, but they also have to deal with local issues and regional ones and a lot of the time, the simple fact of life is Washington, DC has nothing to do with it. Neither does political party.

There are people on a state and local level who are supposed to represent all of their plurality fairly and to the best of their ability and not play favorites. But not all play that way.

Some elected officials you don’t hear from. They literally fade into the woodwork and it’s like not having anyone there, or worse, you constantly forget their names because they literally do nothing.

Some elected officials you had great hopes for. You may have even been personally invested (not financially, but personally as in you volunteered for their campaigns, etc.) in them and at first you feel happy and have a sense of hope that the right thing will happen with them in office.

Then with some of them you watch a slow metamorphosis. First it is barely noticeable, then all of a sudden they drank some Kool Aid and kind of sold out. With others, it is once they are elected, they don’t remember your name. That is not me personally, it’s whomever volunteered for them. I don’t volunteer for campaigns, and I don’t donate to them.

Next you have some elected officials begin to believe their own press releases and become rather full of themselves. And then there are those who are just obnoxious at public meetings. And in some cases as I witnessed in the past, abusive of their positions. That used to be a fan favorite in the good old bad old days of Radnor Township for example. I am actually unsure if it is happening again, but seems to appear to be so which is so sad. It’s like everything watchdog citizens did years ago to clean up. The township has been for nothing

There is one commissioner in Radnor who is being particularly pissy with residents lately. I noticed it when they announced the potential of eminent domain against a church. You have to wonder if they think so little of their residence. Why not just resign and do something less stressful with their evenings at times?

You just have to wonder.

Some of these elected officials have a basic issue with maintaining composure at public meetings. But when it’s a politician having outbursts at residents, it leaves a lot to be desired. I wrote about one such person recently. I call it meeting Tourette’s.

This supervisor that I wrote about recently is in West Goshen Township. And for someone who is the chair of the supervisors, I don’t understand why is she so insecure? Since she became a supervisor, she is prone to these outburst on occasion and she can’t handle public comment and then there’s the whole thing of where she basically was trying to apologize to people and then said they were lying and how does that work?

And again, this isn’t a once or maybe even twice occurrence over the I guess it’s about five years she’s been a supervisor, is it?

Yes, recently I wrote about this politician after I saw one of the meeting tirades. I was astounded and as a woman I was also embarrassed that as another woman she lost control like that. I understand being human, but she’s held to a higher standard as an elected official. She’s also held to a higher standard because she is a female politician, so when she throws her little temper tantrums in the public view she makes it harder for the women who come up behind her no matter what the political party because that’s what people remember. And again not a new meeting occurrence for this politician is it?

So this female politician first reached out to a friend of mine. Asked her to take down her post and then asked her to have me take down my post that she was having a bad day. My friend lives in municipality and decided that she would be the bigger person and take the post down. I told my friend I was not taking the post down because it wasn’t the first time it had happened not even the first time in almost 5 years that it had happened.

I thought this was the end of it.

Apparently not since a few days ago this politician then reached out to me singing a very sad song of having a bad day, etc. etc. and she wasn’t a bad person. I never said she was a bad person. I said she can’t control herself in public meetings and is a shrew to the public she is supposed to be serving. The public who elected her to office.

But the best part was, she said she had never read my blog post, but she was asking me to take it down anyway. I mean HUH?

I am choosing not to share what she wrote to me specifically although I could. And again, if this was the first time she had meeting Tourette’s I wouldn’t have written another post, but last time I wrote about her, it was because she was telling a resident who was calm and polite that she would have police remove him and how is that normal? Was that just another bad day?

I asked that politician if she was contacting a reporter working for a or a newspaper or a TV station, would she have contacted them to ask me to take something down?

I think we know the answer to that question don’t we?

And to this politician, I will say a lot of people have bad days, actually truly awful days and don’t act like that do they?

And then another township that has been on. My radar of late is West Vincent again.

And in West Vincent, I really don’t understand what is going on. You have one supervisor who the last time they were at a meeting was in a wheelchair and has not been seen for a bunch of weeks? And then there is another supervisor there who also must have other health issues and the last meeting they were seen wearing a mask as in a medical mask and then left like 20 minutes into a regular board meeting looking scary gray on camera? Then another meeting was canceled because they didn’t have a quorum wasn’t it?

And what’s going to happen at the next meeting which is like Monday? They are literally putting the business of a municipality in Pennsylvania at risk and what’s the endgame? Will they try to slide in politicians that people voted out of office as benchwarmers? It’s a valid question since the manager whose contract they didn’t renew a few years ago is suddenly back as the interim manager, correct?

Something’s definitely got to give there and you have to wonder like when does the state come into municipalities to clean up messes?

And then down in Oxford, they seem to want to get rid of their police force? What kind of politicians want to get rid of the people that serve and protect the public?

These are but a few examples of messy politicians and messy municipalities and the thing is they make it more difficult for other municipalities and other local politicians don’t they?

Face it, for the most part the public trust is broken. And it’s broken also because of the shenanigans at the county level in various counties. Maybe this is just my opinion. Maybe they’re all going to think I’m imagining things, but I don’t think so, do you?

Eventually, for these people, there’s going to be a reckoning. Pick a county and municipality. It can be Delaware County. It can be Montgomery County. It can be Chester County. Note, I left Philadelphia county out because Philadelphia County is a hot mess all by itself and has been for decades.

We all have to want better for our communities then just going along to get along. But you have a lot of social media misinformed armchair quarterbacking and you don’t have a lot of people that go to meetings regularly or even have a clue what’s going on in their own municipality regularly and that’s on the plurality.

I’m sure there are politicians who will read this post and say they haven’t read it (of course) and think they’re being singled out or picked on. They’re not. They’re just part of the problem as far as I’m concerned.

We elect these people in good faith to look after our communities and represent all of us equally and fairly, but do they do that?

My last word on this is if they were doing that, I don’t think we’d be having this conversation, do you?

These politicians need to be better or make way for people who can be better. However, as the plurality the people out there in these communities, we also have to want better.

Do you want better in your community?

Thanks for stopping by.

how many years has this blog write about the joseph price house in exton?

I have given up counting the number of blog posts just about the Joseph Price house in Exton. It’s the house at the corner of S. Whitford Rd. and Clover Hill Road. It’s a gorgeous house.

For years many of us have been concerned because there’s nobody living there and we feel that people have been getting in. There’s a new video from Abandoned Steve and I am very grateful to whoever this videographer is because it shows West Whiteland Township the exact state of this historic asset, and this is a federally listed historic property.

I actually know people who have tried to make a deal to buy this house. I also have been told that people on the West Whiteland Historic Commission have been trying to find a preservation buyer haven’t they? But things don’t seem to be as simple as that do they?

Can we just ask the question why is it that the two owners of this property who have never done anything with the house? It seem to be unable to let it go and are just letting it rot? Why why why why?

Anyway, I hope this video will spur people into convincing these owners to sell to a preservation buyer, etc. and I think West Whiteland needs to make sure this property is properly secured.

I’m having a big I told you so moment now. When I had written about this and said that I had a couple of inside photos that somebody had sent me from like a year or two ago, people argued up down and sideways that the house was occupied.

Well now?

not so fast at lloyd farm in caln, main line health

I received an e-mail today:

Mine Line Health is trying to slip through a 4 story, 140,000 s.f. giant Urgent Care on the Lloyd Farm In Caln.

They bought 14.5 acres of the 60.

Essentially this is a hospital without rooms or emergency facilities.

They will have 4 surgical suites for those nice things like arm and knees, colonoscopies. legs, etc.   This is a hospital for people with insurance.  Only God knows what will happen to all the people in Coatesville or have bad or no insurance.

I have an ever more interesting thought on what they are doing.  I have to ask if thy came in and lied through “information” meetings?  Since they only had to tell people 750 feet from the site, few came.

Now we all know Caln Township is sleazy and I thought they might improve with retired State Senator Andy Dinniman’s former chief of staff Don Vymazal as the new manager (His email is dvymazal@calntownship.org

But alas he apparently has drunk the Kool Aid.

MAIN LINE HEALTH IS SUBMITTING A PLAN TO CHANGE THE PRESENT ZONING FROM RESIDENTIAL R-2 TO COMMERCIAL C-2TO ALLOW THEM TO CONSTRUCT AN URGENT CARE FACILITY

say her name: anna maciejewska

Here we are coming towards the end of year seven missing . In Chester County we are now on the third district attorney in office since she went missing.

Say her name. Anna Maciejewska.

I have lost count of how many times I have written about her on this blog, and I never met her. But I still think about her and I think about her especially around the holidays because I think of the little boy she had who is not so little anymore who has probably lost the memory of the sound of his mother’s voice.

I wonder what that boy thinks and feels? I wonder if he is happy? I wonder what his father her husband tells him about his mother? I wonder if he ever talks to his Polish grandparents and how they are?

There has been no activity on the Facebook page for Anna in forever. I went to see if the PA Crimestoppers bulletin was still up for her as a missing person and …oh it can’t be found.

I wonder if the Pennsylvania State Police still think about her because she is their missing person’s case. Or have they just put her in a dusty drawer in a dusty cupboard in a storage room somewhere?

Christmas is coming people. Let’s say her name a little. I’m going to share the old videos that I can still find on YouTube about her.

Anna Maciejewska is still missing. Here’s hoping for a Christmas miracle that the state police remember she’s one of their cases. Here’s wishing and hoping that the current Chester County District Attorney could blow the dust off the case folders and help a little.

don’t these dog owners want to keep their dogs safe?

These dogs get out far too often. Maybe people are going to think I’m being harsh but these are dogs that live on a street off of 401. What’s with the humans in the equation?

These pups wander far and wide. They are very friendly, loving dogs. But the owners are being irresponsible because they keep getting out, and I am allowed to have this opinion. If the dogs on an electric fence, maybe they need new collars with longer prongs? Maybe their collars need batteries? Maybe they need to be trained to the electric fence properly? Maybe there’s a break in the electric fence ?

This is of course, assuming there is an electric fence because you don’t know if there is or not. It could be a regular fence. They are getting out of a property which could be completely unfenced.

There could be many reasons why they are getting out but why are their humans not keeping a better eye on them?

Whatever is going on here this is not right. And I would hate to see these dogs get hit or someone to be put through the trauma of accidentally hitting them because they’re running free when they’re not supposed to be.

What is happening is upsetting and I’m posting this because there have been so many instances recently of these dogs getting out day after day and they’re being found in all different parts of Malvern. In one case, my friend‘s daughter helped catch the dogs one of the times they were loose.

Accidents happen, I get that but this is happening far too often. Which makes you wonder is this a pattern?

All we keep seeing in our social media feeds are found dogs and dumped dogs and dumped cats and found cats. I just don’t understand what’s going on in this world in which we live. It makes me very sad.

And I’m sorry if the owners feel like they’re being singled out, but in this case, how many times do their dogs have to get out before somebody looks into the why?

May Saint Francis continue to watch over them until somebody does look at why this is happening and takes steps to correct it.

nothing like a stuck truck in wayne at dinner time….and the willows bs (again)

This.

Eyes rolling.

North Wayne Avenue at the Wayne Train Station. A GIANT stuck looks like an 18 wheeler at dinner time. Nice. Can the driver not read? Does he or she not know the height of what they are driving?

Talk about duh.

Who is paying for what? It’s ridiculous and maybe if Commissioner Moira my brother is an actor Mulroney and perpetually cranky and pale Commissioner Jack Larkin can stop hollering at Jake Abel long enough they can look into this? (Yeah commissioners your off camera and on camera antics are noted by quite a few so you can’t blame me can you?)

Also about The Willows. Is it really financially stable? IMHO, I don’t think so. And what exactly does Will Nord do to earn his salary which at the recent Radnor meeting is supposedly $91K+? He’s a pleasant fellow, but still? And they want to hire an events manager? Why doesn’t the caterer have an onsite events manager? And about that caterer? Peachtree? Are they REALLY the best that the Willows can do? Meh. A few years ago I won pop up dinner tickets with them I think somewhere in Radnor, Pomme maybe? Yeah well, still waiting for them to honor that from 2020 and we will leave it at that. I don’t need a free meal, but I did win it in a contest. So now if they offered it? Yeah no thanks, and that made me decide they are a nope on the caterer scale of life.

And what about the remaining asbestos? That remediation is specific and expensive, correct?

The woman discussing the finances was arch and rather defensive so that means kids, that it’s all really not so hot is it?

And the neighbors sound issues are very real and if Radnor and the Willows Park Preserve think the neighbors are going to go away they will not. Look at the issues in the past until it was worked out at Appleford in Lower Merion. Will Nord thinks everyone is having pink fluffy clouds Kumbaya conversations? The Inveraray neighbors are pissed. I wouldn’t mess with that HOA, would you?

And if Peachtree is selling a house party vibe, they are not correctly marketing the property and Peachtree has full exclusive control as a caterer, so sorry not sorry they do indeed have responsibility towards dealing with any issue, including noise, don’t you think? Are they spread too thin with locations at the Willows, Pomme, Portico at Awbry, and Parque at ridley Creek State Park and again I ask if they are making the dough ray me as an exclusive caterer at FOUR venues why can’t THEY pay for the events planner needed? Usually an events planner is hired by the site if there is NO as in ZERO exclusive caterer.

I think the Willows Park Preserve is a hot mess and sinking further. And yeah, asbestos remediation? Check back through paperwork Radnor Township and I think you will find it is definitely not al complete. And what about the cottage? All of the money wasted on that and NO ONE EVER TALKS ABOUT IT AND WHY?

And let’s talk some more how you wanted to use eminent domain against a church?

Damn Radnor Township, you can’t get out of your own way.

BREAKING: east whiteland gets $1 million from harrisburg!

Hi! Friendly neighborhood blogger here. Reporting live from the East Whiteland Supervisors meeting.

Chair of East Whiteland Supervisors Scott Lambert just announced that PA Governor Josh Shapiro has given East Whiteland a grant check ONE MILLION DOLLARS to add to the Chester County grant already announced for $800,000.

This means a hefty chunk of change going towards the purchase of the Schiffer Farm property along with the open space referendum tax funds. This is AMAZING.

Congratulations East Whiteland!

And East Whiteland? Please buy yourself some new microphones for the podium in the boardroom.
