asked and answered: former prothonotary debbie bookman was charged by pa ag

Saw this from Facebook in May- Public Post

The other day, I asked the following:

Dumb question but election season means whatever happened to Debbie Bookman the former prothonotary? She resigned under a cloud, and I will note unfriended me on Facebook sometime when that happened which kind of made me laugh, but then we’ve heard nothing haven’t we? Are the Democrats burying this? Or is there some kind of investigation going on that they can’t talk about but maybe they want to say that there is an active or not active case?

Now maybe when that cloud broke, she simply exited Facebook, that would also make sense. Don’t know. All I do know is I voted for that woman so when the news broke in October, 2024 I was gob smacked and as a voter felt in a sense, betrayed.

Don’t know where that person went. So this was who I thought she was:

Here she is in a Melton Center video from 4 years ago:

Then this from a year ago with something sone by the Chester County Community Foundation:

And something State Senator Carolyn Comitta put out after visiting CYWA in Coatesville:

Then came the headline no one expected, let alone people who voted for her in October, 2024:

EXCERPT:

WEST CHESTER — Debbie Bookman, who made history in 2019 by becoming the first Democrat to be elected prothonotary in Chester County and then by winning a second term in 2023, has abruptly resigned from her position, citing personal reasons.

“It has been one of my greatest honors to serve the public as your prothonotary,” Bookman said in a statement sent to the MediaNews Group on Thursday evening. “However, this year has been extremely difficult for me on a personal level and I honestly can no longer give my best to this position.”….Her decision, however, comes in the wake of an investigation by the county Controller’s Office — the county’s elected financial watchdog —  into financial irregularities in the Prothonotary’s Office. Bookman alluded to those matters in her statement. She acknowledged that she had made purchases of a personal nature using the credit card issued to the office for official business.

Then came this article:

EXCERPT:

WEST CHESTER — The Chester County chief financial watchdog confirmed on Tuesday that her office had some months ago referred the matter involving potential misuse of a county credit card by the former county prothonotary to the District Attorney’s Office.

Controller Margaret Reif said in an email that she had sent word of her office’s investigation to the D.A. in late August after she had uncovered potential wrongdoing by Debbie Bookman, who was in her second term as the elected official responsible for civil court case documents and filings.

“As required by county code, our office is obligated to report any potential instances of fraud to the District Attorney’s office,” Reif wrote. “In compliance with this requirement, we reported the personal use of county credit cards to the District Attorney’s office on August 28th.

Then this appeared in the spring of this year:

EXCERPT:

WEST CHESTER — An error by officials inside Chester County government has resulted in the now vacant office of county prothonotary being left off the ballot in the May primary election, leaving the county’s political parties without candidates who would go before the voters until November.

The mistake was discovered Wednesday and reported by commissioners’ Chairman Josh Maxwell to the media that day, as well as by the commissioners and their staff to the county’s two main political party leaders.

One of the county’s so-called “row offices,” the prothonotary is in charge of overseeing the filings for civil and family court cases. It has been vacant since October, when Debbie Bookman, who had held the office since 2020, resigned after it was discovered that she used a county credit card for personal expenses.

Of course this whole thing was described in the media as a “good faith mistake” by the Chester County CEO, and at the time Charlotte Valyo, head of Chester County Democrats (still and oh grandma please, but I digress) I do not recall commenting at all.

But until this morning all that has been heard about Debbie Bookman is motivational speaking stuff. Yes there is a website:

https://leadingfromtheinside.life/about-me

https://leadingfromtheinside.life/gallery

https://leadingfromtheinside.life

Yeah ok, I bet she is good at that. No digs, truly.

But hey now some watchdog lovelies from Coatesville sent me news through someone I know this morning that answers (for now) the question of what happened with the whole exiting the prothonotary’s office of it all last October and wowza:

Well damn, BOOM there it is. The PA Attorney General has charged her. Her formal arraignment is September 18, 2025 unless it moves. I do not see an attorney listed yet as of this morning.

She seems to be facing 1 charge:

M2 04/21/2023 1 1 18 § 4113 §§ A Misapply Entrusted/Govt/Fin Inst Prop

Original Offense Date: 04/21/2023 K 1013764-3

What really and truly blows my mind is this started in 2023.

Bet that anonymous poster who posted in some random Facebook groups will be posting again soon… and yeah before the incorrect rumor mill starts, not my posts don’t know who posted, don’t care.

But now there is an update.

(Hey traditional media? You are very welcome! And it’s now your story to flesh out. This was just a dusty curtain raiser.)

End screenshot is from Rep. Pielli. Wonder what he will be thinking now? Not being snarky, as I just can’t believe all of this myself, yet here we are, right? And you have to wonder if Chester County Democrats will be holding onto county row? Time will tell.

don’t be a pumpkin joy sucker.

My photo Sugartown Strawberries 2024

Do you remember when we all used to love getting our very own pumpkins?

Do you remember going to farms and farm stands to get your pumpkins?

Do you remember pumpkin festivals?

Do you remember the simple joy in carving and decorating pumpkins with friends and family?

Yeah well, apparently wistfully remembering good pumpkin times makes us anachronisms.

Except I call bull twaddle on that.

There is more joy to be had in doing your own pumpkins than having a service vomit dozens on your porch, steps, stoop. You can even have BloomBox deliver pumpkins you choose if you are short on time, and then you can decorate. Or you can visit places like Sugartown Strawberries, King’s Pumpkin Farm and Corn Maze in Honey Brook, Smith’s Produce Farm in Glenmoore, Yeagers in Phoenixville, Wilcox Farms in Boyertown, or the East Goshen Pumpkin festival (just to name a handful of places.)

And let’s get real, how long does it take to place pumpkins yourself? The answer is it doesn’t. You can do it yourself, promise!!

But remember: to be trendy you are supposed to hire people to pumpkin. Personally, I will never be trendy and I am proud of it. I also skipped the beige beige world of interior decorating like I live in a Pottery Barn/ West Elm catalog too. (And I am damn proud if it too!)

And these people who have to be “professionally” pumpkined? Ha! How does your HOA feel at the end of pumpkin time when they need to be disposed of if you are a development dweller? And not all of these pumpkin vomiting on porch businesses offer removal, and if they do, yeah, that costs extra, doesn’t it?

Pumpkin placement services are joy suckers. And expensive. And everything these people do no matter where you live, all looks the same.

Do you really want to be Stepford about pumpkins too?

I wrote about this last year and am again this year. Don’t be a pumpkin joy sucker. Go forth and find your own pumpkins.

Live dangerously and remember how fun it used to be to do your own pumpkin styling.

how about deer culling and less development in chester county?

Yesterday we saw this image from the screenshot above all over TV news stations. The backstory? A 15 year old boy named Kevin Donohue, a sophomore at Malvern Prep in Malvern PA ( public source on this is NBC10 Philadelphia.)

NBC 10 had this to say about young Kevin:

“It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we share the tragic news of the passing of Kevin Donahue, a beloved student of Malvern Preparatory School, who was tragically killed in a fatal car accident. Kevin’s untimely departure has left a void in our community, and our hearts go out to his family, friends, and all who knew him during this difficult time,” school officials said in a statement. “Kevin was known for his bright spirit, kindness, and positive attitude. As a student at Malvern Prep, he was admired not only for his academic dedication but also for his genuine compassion and friendly nature. Kevin’s presence was a source of joy and encouragement to peers, teachers, and staff alike. His infectious smile and warm personality made him a beloved member of the school community, and his loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.”

Kevin was transported to the hospital, but did not survive his deer related injuries. The was on Route 322 in West Bradford. We can’t say deer alley because well Chester County is overrun with deer. Young Kevin’s sister apparently survived and I can’t imagine what this family and his school community are experiencing. I do know Malvern Prep parents who were devastated by this news.

As the media has reported, including our own IrishEyez in Chester County, the deer was hit by a vehicle traveling the other direction (eastbound 322) and was literally thrown onto this car (traveling westbound 322.) The other vehicle has not been located and police would like to speak with the person. They were possibly driving a black Toyota Sienna. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pennsylvania State Police Embreeville barracks at 610-486-6280.

Malvern Prep is I am told asking for people to respect the privacy of the family, classmates, and school who have suffered a great loss. To that end, be wary of clicking on crap on social media. I have personally reported innumerable and ghoulish predatory Facebook pages today on this. It is click bait and if you click who knows what will happen to your device, computer, etc. Here are few examples so you can avoid them:

This horrible event also prompts a conversation we need to have in Chester County. development has eradicated and drastically condensed not only native habitat for deer, but the predators of deer. I mean yes we have plenty of coyotes, but they seem more intent on what we as humans leave behind, and even our pets.

Deer herds need to be culled, drastically. And humans should want that, not feeding them because they are cute bearers of deer ticks and Lyme disease. I don’t want to hear about BS of deer birth control that will occasionally crop up. We need to cull those herds. All over the county. It needs to be done legally, but it needs to be done. This year there seem to be more deer than ever.

Development. All of the development county-wide, gobbles land like a Pac Man. Why can’t we get Harrisburg to update the Municipalities Planning Code and even allow moratoriums on development? It’s NOT sustainable.

I am so sorry for what people and family of this young man are experiencing. I hope the driver who hit the deer first comes forward. It was a freak accident but their input is needed. Media reports put the accident on 322 near Romig Road.

what’s up in westtown school as we are jawning into fall?

Yesterday (Tuesday, September 2nd) a friend was driving by the old Pete’s Produce AKA Fauxmer Jawn. Oodles of pumpkins were being delivered. Are they locally sourced? I mean if they were they would be from Sugartown Strawberries or something, right?

Anyway…my friend went inside and store was rather devoid of people. Here I will share some of what she wrote to me:

FJ had a shipment of pumpkins delivered and they crates are sitting in one of her “fields “. Worker was standing next to them scratching his head….As I was driving by, I saw yard signs everywhere advertising this pumpkin service. (See door tag in photo)

I went inside Fauxmer. Found this on the counter about a pumpkin service :

I should have asked the girl working except I think she is clueless although nice!!

She asked if I was looking for anything special. Told her I was first time here and just checking it out…..She said they were out of corn but would be planting more in a couple weeks ⁉️⁉️⁉️

She babbled about the peppers and some were in their refrigerator. She commented when she saw my truck pull in she thought it was Christa her boss because she has same one.

I wonder if Westtown doesn’t care if it fails and if they have plans for land since they already have solar panels sitting on part of it?

Wait, they are planting corn again now? Really? Has she magically bypassed the long season (4 to 6months?) that corn requires to grow? You know spring planting, fall harvest? And hydroponically grown is not a realistic thing for corn really is it? And if the illustrious fauxmer has corn to sell at a Philadelphia market called Point Breeze Market, why are the corn cupboards bare at her farm store???

Solar fields there at Westtown? I don’t object and sure enough I found an approval document in Westtown from October 2023, and they broke ground in January 2025:

Before the rest of my jawning questions let’s talk about Main Line Pumpkins. The guy who owns it, used to work for Jawn as “livestock manager” or something. He was interviewed after the racist graffiti story hit the media….

Fox 29: Racist, antisemitic slurs and messages spray-painted at farm in West Chester: “This is a direct attack” August 12, 2024 10:41pm EDT
https://www.fox29.com/news/racist-antisemitic-slurs-messages-spray-painted-farm-west-chester

“Something as heinous as a swastika is not just an attack on FarmerJawn, but an attack on all of us,” declared Barfield.

In May, Barfield says their barn was hit with racist graffiti markings.

In April, they experienced vandalism and theft.

It feels deeply personal to Farmerjawn’s diverse staff.

“It felt directed towards our team, towards the owner and people who work here,” said livestock manager, Armen Caravantes who discovered the most recent vandalism last week.

“I was shocked.  I was shaking,” said Caravantes. “If it’s people who actually hold these beliefs, that’s terrifying.”

(Segue time: what ever happened with that investigation? Did they put up security cmeras? )

Other jawning curiosities? November 2022 was when Westtown initially announced they were letting Farmer Jawn move in. So that means 3 years anniversary date of initial announcement is later this fall, with January 1, 2026 meaning a three year anniversary, right? Is it a three year contract and if so will she be renewed and for how long?

https://vista.today/2025/04/farmerjawn-cease-and-desist-register/

https://vista.today/2025/04/farmerjawn-nonprofit-charitable-work

Earlier this year Axios broke the tale of no more non-profit status for the Fauxmer. Then apparently she said she was doing non-profit on a pass through arrangement – a “fiscal sponsor” they call it. That organization is called Jubilee Gift Galaxy which has offices in Middletown, NY and Oakland, CA. I can’t really tell you much about the organization, it seems a little woo woo to me.

Now the Axios story when it first broke said this in one little sentence :

When I pulled that article up today it had changed a smidgeon:

So what happened to the COO/CFO guy?

I will note I heard about some other staff exits this year, but what happened? Were they exited or did they leave on their own and why?

So who is the new CFO/COO of Farmer Jawn? It looks like there was a PR firm switcheroo too? Or are there now TWO PR firms? Of course I and Chester County farmers I know are still wondering how a farmer can afford PR services in the first place?

Now look, I get small and start up businesses have turnover. So don’t go there, it’s just shall we say there seems to have been quite a few exits etc since this business began as in before Westtown?

There is still Elkins Park, right? That’s 1813 Beech Avenue, Elkins Park, PA 19027. 6730 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19119 is another business currently and has been, although it still shows up on the PA Charities database as of today as the address and seriously, what does it take to change an address?

So someone today asked if she ever got the $657,000 grant from Rep. Houlahan? Ummm doesn’t appear so unless she can access the funding through the “fiscal sponsor”? Of course we all live in Trumplandia, so for that reason alone she still might not have it, right?

What prompted all these thoughts? This:

Farmerjawn Produce & Kitchen, 1225 E. Street Rd. West Chester, August 22. Pass. The facility offers prepackaged only foods. In 2024, plans were submitted for the addition of a food prep area. However, the plans were incomplete and a letter from this Department requesting additional information was sent on 10/24/24. If facility is not planning to continue with the kitchen, remove all unused equipment. If plan review is to continue, contact this Department within 30 days with the information requested in the incomplete letter. Provide thermometers to refrigerators. Food Facility Person in Charge not able to provide documentation that T.H.E. Wellness Tea is from an approved source. Product was removed from shelf. Forward source documentation to this Department. Maintain copies of supplier information on-site for Department review.

~ Lancaster Online Chester County Restaurant Inspections August 31, 2025

This is not the fist inspection they have had. The devil is in the details, and are they using the kitchen? Is anyone or will anyone be using the kitchen? Paperwork issues again? Kind of like the non profit status? Who is responsible for the paperwork?

Yes, I know, I know, writing about this again because I am a different race than the fauxmer will mean a new onslaught of nasty messages, comments, etc. I can’t help that my skin color is different. It is not being a racist to ask what is going on here, I would still be asking the same questions regardless of race, creed, or color. Westtown School has never said if she pays rent or what the arrangement is, have they? They don’t seem to like to talk about this, do they?

I will say for the record that is this almost 3 years later actually lived up to the hype, I would shut my mouth. But what is it besides the hype and her shameless self promotion? I know some farmers, and they aren’t this. They are hard working, without glam shots, photogs, and PR personnel. People believe in her, and that is not a criticism of those people, but I do wonder, in the end, will there be something, or will it fade away to nothing?

Is this grand plan sustainable? Time will tell because Westtown never seems to want to talk about this, but there she is on their property so why not?

Hope they move those pumpkins, because we all know deer etc love pumpkins…..

time for pesto

I love growing basil. It’s one of my favorite herbs. And since I started growing it from seed and using my greenhouse to grow it , it’s a game changer. It is a stronger plant and it lasts longer when you grow from seed yourself. And it loves being in the greenhouse with the chili peppers I grow.

Today I made pesto out of some of the basil and served it on tortellini for dinner.

Now my late father made his pesto using a mortar and pestle. I use my blender. And below are the ingredients for my pesto and literally it just goes in the blender and I pulverize it. I refrigerate it until I’m going to use it and I just love pesto when homemade like this.

Pesto

3 – 4 cups fresh basil leaves

Bunch of fresh flat leaf Italian parsley or lovage

1 cup olive oil

4-5 garlic cloves

Zest and juice of 1 lemon

Juice but no zest of one lime

Salt to taste

3/4 cup of toasted pine nuts / pignoli

1/2 grated Parmesan or Parmesan Romano cheese

Dash of hot sauce

time to address the peanut gallery

Before I dive into politics to the west, that is very truly oddly Pennsyltucky at this point I will start with Chat GPT can design a better new logo than Cracker Barrel itself.

Of course I don’t understand what the hubbub nationally has been about this because it’s Cracker Barrel not some Michelin Guide starred restaurant. But hey they seem to use the same graphic designer as Chester County, right?

But I digress. And somehow, mentioning Cracker Barrel fits with the political nonsense out of Honey Brook.

The politician running against Valerie Shultz seems to talk talk talk on Facebook a lot (and nowhere else- doesn’t want to debate or even do meet and greets and why?)

This guy and his handler who is a current supervisor of Honey Brook Township started ramping up this campaign weeks ago. You know when no one is dishing the most local of politics and candidates because it’s literally like summer vacation?

So the primary season out there was nasty. These people who represent literally the existing political cabal and status quo did not want Valerie Shultz running. Heaven forbid a Republican that actually made sense ran for office, was always my thought. She’s not extreme, she’s even and measured whenever you speak with her whenever you hear her speak in public and she researches what she’s going to talk about so she doesn’t shoot from the hip or misinform.

She is also just a nice person who cares about her community. She volunteers quietly because it is right, not so she gets self stated accolades. Yes we have become friends because that’s just the way life is, you encounter someone that you respect and you think is kind of interesting. Oh and we started to get to know each other rather a good bit of time before she ever wanted to run for supervisor.

As this campaign season in Honey Brook Township ramps up, they literally are crazed and mostly inappropriate keyboard warriors. The new politician AKA talking hoodie, especially. He can’t stay off of his campaign Facebook page. And his behavior online seems to be deteriorating, which is never a good look for a politician whom you never hear from in public. Ad hominem attacks with nothing but rumors to back it up? Check, they have you covered!

And then there is the talking hoodie’s handler. He’s also interesting online. Women who disagree are a favorite target, but can it be said if you disagree with his version of reality in general male or female or house cat), which isn’t necessarily the truth you are bad, bad, bad?

Yep, the He Man Women Haters Club is now in session.

These adult men children want to screen shot my every thought, so I must be truly fabulous, yes?

WHY THANK YOU!

I can’t control their behavior and lack of couth, but I can and will take notes. So they want everyone who makes them uncomfortable feel bad about themselves? Stay in your lanes, buckaroos.

Good government is not about these guys. They have their own love language that is well, rather outdated. It’s a whole Tammany Hall in a Corn Field, and they should learn about what happened to Boss Tweed back in the day.

I like to clear up misperception. They like foggy with a side of thug. One of their favorite things is saying that Valerie Shultz is a Democrat and the latest is they seem to be inferring she was thrown out of the Republican party? Oh come on, that is hysterical, isn’t it? She is on the ballot for the fall because she got written in on the Democrat ballot BUT as a Republican.

A current sitting supervisor politician doesn’t get it does he? (See below ) I am not part of “Team Val” as he likes to phrase it, but I am proud to know Valerie Shultz for Honey Brook Township Supervisor personally and call her a friend.

Like all of these items it is an attempt to denigrate, intimidate, and bully falls flat, doesn’t it? He likes to attempt belittling me by calling me a babbling blogger, but all that tells me is himself is a little touchy about things, especially things he doesn’t want people looking into, right? It also tells me that he has a problem with women saying what he doesn’t want said, yes?

No part of Valerie‘s campaign is “self imploding”, but the cracks are showing on his bully politics side, aren’t they ?

I haven’t “ripped into” Tel Hai Retirement Community in the least, but I have pointed out how thug politics tries desperately to control the narrative being spewed at a senior citizen community vis-à-vis shall we say deliberately skewed misinformation , and is that a bad thing? That’s a lovely community and there are lots of nice people and they deserve better from local government. So let’s put that to rest (for at least five minutes because they just rotate and regurgitate the same old thing don’t they?)

The Honey Brook Facebook page is just a Facebook page and the admin got caught playing politics after she said there was to be no politics in her group. And that group is used to spread the disinformation that thug politics wants out there isn’t it?

I’ll notice he or his talking hoodie hasn’t said anything about Honey Brook Community Library yet, has he? Probably because the talking hoodie and he as his handler have made quite the hash up over there and that was exposed yesterday, wasn’t it? They should be apologizing to the library, or is that asking a lot from them? oh an is it true they now want a Republican only meet and greet? I man pass the drool cup, again, Valerie Shultz might be an inconvenient Republican as far as they think, but she is still a Republican, yes?

I have never denigrated the first responders out there or ripped into them in the least. I don’t care for the politician talking hoodie this politician is handling because it’s just a way to keep the thug politics cabal intact and that is at the expense of residents and taxpayers and even that candidate isn’t it? And one of the only comments I have made in the area of first responders is there is something to be said for local policing and that isn’t anything bad is it?
And when I refer to Pennsyltucky, I am referring to the thug politics he eschews, not mocking the community at large. There is a distinct difference which he knows.

Candidate Bobble Head Politician and the current Board of Supervisors want residents to be seen and not heard, and to never question anything. I will not apologize for saying that is wrong along with thinly veiled attempts at resident intimidation especially on social media and am I wrong? Forget that semi-rhetorical question you know it’s not wrong to question things that aren’t right, correct?

The only divisiveness that is happening in Honey Brook is caused by this man, his handler, and the thug politics cabal.

Of course he wants people to stick with the “status quo“, it means he’s never questioned, and a politician who isn’t willing to work with all people even involving being questioned about things is not one you really want in office is it?

And if anyone has “invited” the outside in for heightened scrutiny, it’s the current regime, and he acts like an absurd HOA president who wants to gate off the entire community.

The more he blathers the more people wonder what is being hidden from the residents, and it is that simple, correct ? He doesn’t like sunshine and transparency I guess? Remember how he was when he was running? Butter couldn’t melt in his mouth, right? Flash forward to him getting his skirts in a bunch because I stumbled across that old news report about puppy mills in that area and posted it. Why would he care unless he supports puppy mills? I have zero issue with responsible dog breeders. I do have an issue with puppy mills, as do most people with a heart and a brain. So it’s pretty funny. He says I’m against all dog breeders. Alrighty then. But the best is stumbling upon his election pledge so to speak. He’s really “leading by example, not by the tongue, making a difference by getting your hands, dirty not your keyboard” And remember his “community is about representation, caring, kindness and respect….” aaand puppy mills, thug politics, corn field Tammany Hall, denigrating women, and SO much more!!!

The handler politician’s blathering also can be potentially construed in the fact that he doesn’t really have faith in the politician he has chosen to run, yes?

Been saving this gem (below, next screenshot.) From the spring. The supervisors of Honey Brook Township using a community group as an official channel? They didn’t use official township channels, but posted here to try to skate around things, didn’t they? They can have their own opinions, BUT presenting things like it’s official township anything? Yeahhhh do they have a bridge they want to sell us? And next time this guy who so loves his community opens his mouth, remember this and wonder who is this guy, really?

Whatever. Just another day with thug politics. The elected one needs to remember his behavior might be it’s all Good to Be King, but he’s not. The other one? Well the saddest thing of all is he totally doesn’t get these people are literally using him, but he doesn’t get a lot of things, does he?

It’s time to end the Tammany Hall Corn Field and the thug politics cabal in Honey Brook Township. These gents are a little too obsessed with why people, not just me, are watching.

can we talk about puppies being sold illegally on the streets of west chester borough?

These photos were like yesterday or last night in front of Jaco Taco and Juice Bar in West Chester Borough. 8 West Gay Street, right ? So does this business have a security cameras? If so, they need to turn the footage over to police.

At first given all the online chatter people were rather frustrated with West Chester Borough Police.

Whoever this person is needs to have his ass thrown in jail for putting puppies in a cage in freaking August and trying to sell them on the streets of West Chester Borough.

This is horrible, it is actually illegal, and it’s animal cruelty. I’m going show you all the screenshots I have collected and a little video. if you see this person selling dogs on the street do not approach. Just call the police and record them. Clear photos would be helpful here.

I will note, based upon what I have seen online, it seems like West Chester Borough was a little slow to act here.

Police need to catch this guy because otherwise we all know what will probably happen, right? Dead puppies somewhere right?

Whoever this is, they’re just as bad as a puppy mill, and who knows maybe they’re from a puppy mill?

And just out of curiosity when this fighting was going on in the middle of the street, where were West Chester Police?

This is ridiculous that this is even happening.

File under law and disorder and illegal puppy sales in West Chester Borough.

the song remains the same in tredyffrin

No it’s not Sullivan Hall on Villanova’s campus. It’s Mt. Pleasant in Tredyffrin. The neighbors as in the full time year round residents are in hell. Party season for off campus housing is back.

And the song remains the same as in the same year after year. Tonight there was a call regarding Mount Pleasant. The residents don’t call unless it’s really bad and what happened? As always not much.

Mount Pleasant deserves better. Tredyffrin Township needs to get it together. There are plenty of student rentals in the region where it’s not like animal house every single year.

But in Tredyffrin its animal house every single year. One would think with all the overpriced infill development going in around Mount Pleasant that Tredyfrrin would be a little more on top of the student houses.

Come on Tredyffrin, how many years? Why isn’t this township embarrassed?

unhappy cat tale: get the cat back, acct philly.

OK this all started with someone contacting my blog’s Facebook page. This woman’s friend’s daughter, whom I assume is of adult age has a cat and was fostering a cat. Long story short apparently, ACCT Philly was told to pick up the daughter’s foster cat when she was out of town on a family emergency and ACCT picked up the WRONG cat. They were supposed to take a cat that the woman was fostering named Garfield, but instead they took the woman’s few year-old cat Simba, who she has had for a few years.

It seems like there was a cat sitter involved as well ?

However, not to be judgmental but WHY would you leave responsibility for the right cat getting picked up with someone else? That is something that this young woman probably should’ve handled herself or waited until she got back home.

Nevertheless, the unthinkable seems to have happened, and we’ve heard of it happening before because cases like this have made the local news. ACCT Philly which I personally feel is a train wreck of an organization, took the woman’s cat by mistake and adopted it out and isn’t that horrible? And I have to ask they are a rescue and they know how to scan for microchips so why didn’t they, because this woman’s cat is chipped and the foster cat as well?

Now what is making this worse is I have found reference to this cat on social media posts and where the mother seems to be posting on Reddit, and there are no names so it seems like a scam/spam post.

I said to the woman who contacted me if we don’t know who the person is who lost their cat it’s not particularly helpful. And then the mother is posting from out of state and apparently lives in New England or something, and one of the posts I found is from a friend of hers on Facebook? I don’t get what they don’t get that they need to humanize this and put a face to the young woman suffering because of this, and why can’t this young woman step forward and say hey this rescue took my cat by accident instead of picking up the foster cat?

I am sharing all the screenshots I have found. I think ACCT Philly if they have to, needs to go to the house of the people who have the wrong cat with an animal control officer and get it back. And if these people who adopted the wrong cat purely because of the shelter, making a huge mistake, supposedly now know they were given someone’s pet in error, why haven’t they returned the cat yet?

Anyway, this is what I found and I think it really honestly is something that deserves a little media attention because if rescues tell people to get pets microchipped so they can easily be returned if lost, etc., etc. , why didn’t this work? Why didn’t they scan the cat they picked up when they got to the shelter to at least make sure they had checked back into the system, and the right cat prior to adoption?

ACCT Philly needs to get its act together or get out of the rescue business.

That young woman deserves her cat back. And if the people who adopted her cat won’t return it, should they really be allowed to adopt the foster cat when all is said and done?

Anyway, I’m throwing this out there. These are the screenshots I found I have maintained the message I received. I’m not making this up, I don’t think these people are making it up but again as I said at the opening of this post, the cat owner who was wronged needs to step forward. And I’m saying that because I think it will help.

And my last thought is the past few months there has been horror story after horror story of dumped animals, abandoned animals, problems with shelters, and so on. It’s heartbreaking.

matine’s café was merveilleux!

My friend and I had been trying to get into Matine’s Café in Devon for months. There were either lines out the door to get in, or you simply could not get a space in the parking lot.

The parking lot is an odd configuration, which is not the fault of the café, but I imagine the owner is making a tidy rent off of these people, and they could do better with the parking lot.

This place was so worth the wait to get in . We both couldn’t remember the last time we had so enjoyed lunch out. We were there for quite a while and just took our time and because it was the last week in August it was a steady but not impossible flow of people in and out.

We ate inside, which was less crowded than outside. They have a lovely outside dining area and that was completely full.

Among other things, we had an actual French woman wait on us. And that made the experience even more fun.

When you walk in the building is deceptively small compared to when you go inside. I think it would be a marvelous place to reserve seating for a luncheon if they did that. This café is spotlessly clean, including the ladies room.

When you are inside, it reminds you of an actual French or European Café. It is light and airy and old style marble top café tables. The tables are so authentic, that I have to wonder if they were purchased in France and shipped over.

They have a wonderful café menu that I imagine might have seasonal adjustments. One of the things I love best is the coffee and tea and the tea, when you are ordering an iced tea, is a pour over so the tea is super fresh and that makes all the difference in iced tea in my opinion. They use loose tea, which is also my preference at home. My friend had I think it was a mango peach iced tea, and I had the Ceylon gold. Ceylon gold is a loose tea I enjoy at home. It is flavorful, but not too acidic nor does it get too dark.

My friend had an artichoke quiche that was beautiful looking. I had the smoked salmon tartine. she loved her quiche and one thing I loved about my cartoon other than how fresh it was and how good quality of smoked salmon it was that they used, was the Tzaziki sauce they used on it. And it also had baby fresh arugula on top. I adore arugula.

Tzaziki is something you think of in Greek cuisine which is Greek yogurt, cucumber, dill, mint, garlic, lemon juice and olive oil. On the Tartine that I had, it was perfect.

Both of us opted for gazpacho on the side. I am picky about gazpacho, and quite frankly, I rarely order it out because I make my late mother-in-law’s Andalusian version of gazpacho and it’s just pretty much my favorite. Their gazpacho is the best I’ve had outside of my own kitchen, ever. To me there’s also is reminiscent of an Andalusian gazpacho, and interestingly like me, they serve it with crumpled feta on top. I never knew this was a thing. I literally tried it one time with my own gazpacho because I just happened to have some in the refrigerator and I thought the tastes would go well together. Also, a lot of restaurants think they can get away with gazpacho made from canned tomatoes, and the taste is just not the same. Matine’s is fresh and there is a slight citrus accent as well.

We also sampled their cheese plate, which they described as being enough for two people, it could have fed more. It was a great selection of cheeses, including a magnificent brie, and we took leftovers home. What I liked about the cheese plate as it was simple and pretty to look at. It wasn’t fussy.

The plates they use for our lunch were a pretty matte blue ceramic disc.

Because it was a belated birthday lunch, we split a dessert crêpe made with Nutella. And although Nutella is an Italian product, ironically the first time I ever had it was in France when I was a teenager.

While we were there, I ran into a friend who was also enjoying a belated birthday lunch with one of her friends!

After we finished eating, we shopped in their little market inside the store. I brought home croissants and a little bread boule, along with some French pantry items like Marie-Antoinette Tea and a fabulous Dijon mustard, as well as Roger & Gallet Fleur de Figuer Eau Parfumée.

Oh, and they have a Little Free French library outside!

We are very excited to have been able to get in and have the time to appreciate this place properly. We look forward to going back again, and I have a feeling it will become a new spot for us. They list the address is Wayne, but it’s really Devon to me because it is just before the Whole Foods if you are headed west and just after the Whole Foods if you are headed east on Lancaster Avenue.
